1 hour nap
« on: September 19, 2005, 10:30:18 am »
Ok im not sure if i have the right section here. However, my daughter is just 6 months and we are just trying to start the easy routine. She is a very spirited baby which makes naps difficult she has NEVER napped. I have now managed to get her into 2 naps a day for 1 hour but am unable to extend that any further. Is 1 hour ok for a nap? When she wakes after an hour she is wide awake and literally boucing in her cot and there is no way she'll go back down. We can't do pu/pd with her as she gets too worked up and fights it the whole way instead we find keeping her in the cot and stroking her hair calms her down.

1 hour nap

1 full, solid hour is the minimum really for a restful, restorative nap. A full sleep cycle takes about 40 mins, so 1 hour is a cycle and a half.

If you can get a longer nap, go for it (the more rest the better), but if she's happy and doesn't look particularly tired and fussy during the time she's up, I'd say 1 hour is fine.
