Would you agree that as long as Caeden's night wakings aren't occurring at the same times consistently he is more then likely waking out of need to eat and not habit?
I am leaning this way - he does eat when I pick him up - sometimes only 10 minutes or so, but often during the day he can complete one side in this amount of time. During the night though I can rarely get him to take the other side.

We are EBF (and I don't have a pump, so DH can't help here!)

He typically goes down somewhere between 6 and 7:30, depending on if he took a catnap. His last feed is somewhere between 5:30-6:30 and usually both sides.
He is waking sometime between 12-2 (occassionally 11:30)
And then again betwen 3:30-5:30 (about 2-3 hours after above feed)

As DH gets up abour 5:30, if Caeden is up around this time, he usually gets some daddy time and a diaper change. I then nurse him after DH leaves (by 6:30 usually) and then he will go back to sleep for another 45 minutes. So - we are up for the day somwhere between 7-8.

Any opinions here? Are we doing okay - should I be trying something different? I would love to get rid of one feeding, but so far he really seems to "need" to eat when he wakes, so I don't want to not feed if he is hungry.

Just this last week or so we have gotten onto a 3 hour eating routine during the day ( I know just in time to think about moving to a 4 hour!) - But he eats when he gets up at the 7-8 range and then every 3 hours roughly thru the day. I usually aim for end of the day feedings to be 4:30-5ish and 6:30-7ish.

Thanks for your imput! Let me know if you need anymore info!

I think everything looks great.  If it's working for you....

You will soon be heading for a growth spurt at the 3 month mark, so things might need changing and going with the flow for a little bit.

When our little guy was 3 months exactly, I tried a technique I read about to stop his night feedings and it worked.

Our son was fairly big at this age (over 16 lbs) so I knew he wouldn't starve over night.  Like Caeden, he would wake and legitimately eat so I knew he wasn't just messing around.   However, it was as though he was almost used to being hungry at this time...does that make sense??  My doctor actually pointed this out to me and I thought he was crazy...I mean how could a baby get hungry out of habit?  But in our son's case it was just that

Anyway, night one I would nurse him for let's say 7 minutes then I would stop.  He would get upset, but I would hold him until he stopped...then put him back to sleep.  The next night I would do the same but nurse him for only 6 minutes and so on.  You're supposed to do this gradually over a week and reduce nursing time by a  minute every night.  After night three our ds never woke again at night.  My doctor's hunch was proven to be correct when I noticed Nikolas would wake in the morning (7 am) and would not nurse as though he was starved but rather just normally  hungry.  Therefore, he really didn't need the night nursings.

Our ds would only wake once at night...I realize yours is waking twice so I guess you'd have to play around with it.  Anyhow, good luck and please let us know what happens with whatever you try!

I haven't heard of that but I may give it a try..... I'll start with just one feeding and see how it goes. Thanks for the info!
