Is my baby a snacker?
« on: September 26, 2005, 21:00:10 pm »
Hi, I really hope someone can help.  Here's the back ground.

My DD is 7 weeks old and we have been doing EASY since I bought her home from the hospital.  She has always been text book, going down awake and sticking to a 3 hour routine.  However, last week she got a cold and found it difficult to sleep her usual way, I resorted to breast feeding her to sleep and now nothing but that seems to work.  I've tried really sticking to EASY but when it comes to nap time she seems as though she's hungry, I feed her a little then she falls asleep on me, I wake her a little and put her down or sh/pat a little and then put her down, and then she wakes 30 mins later hungry again!!  So for the past 3 days she's been working to a 2 hour routine.  I'm really confused.  Is she prop dependant, has she turned into a snacker or is she going through a growth spurt?

Hope you can help.

Sounds like you ,ay have a growth spurt, my dd has been doing that, as hard as I try to stick to my EASY routine, she would need a feed upon waking and also before going down.
Go with the flow, also it may also have thrown your lo a loop with being sick. I know with my dd any small change and I am reaping the concequences for the next week or two.

It doesn't seem likely that she would convert to a nurse-to-sleeper in only a week. If this doesn't work itself out in a few days as a growth spurt, I would consider it a sleep issue though.

If/when you are certain she isn't hungry, We did successful pat/no shh at 7 weeks when I ran into a little sleep resistance. Max didn't take a paci but he was starting to learn how to suck his thumb (or my pinky finger) which helped with that sucking need. He was on a 2 hr EASY until 4 months old.

With a baby that small, when in doubt, feed.   If nothing else, she boosts your milk supply.

Thanks for your advice.  I woke up this morn and decided to record all feeds and sleeps for a few days so I can see whats happening, and guess what, she's back on her 3 hour routine!!!
