Help! She's dropped the wrong feed!
« on: September 29, 2005, 18:40:51 pm »
HI

I began weaning my DD at 4 months as she is very big and the HV advised it.  It was all going well but she did still need the dreamfeed.

Recently, she has dropped the bedtime (7pm) feed in favour of the dreamfeed!  The last two days, I have cut out her solids at 5pm - she still doesn't want her 7pm feed and fusses until 8pm (she's doing it now) and then finally drinks it and sleeps through.

She's nearly six months old.

Any tips?

Thanks

How is she doing now? Any better now that you've cut out supper? How much is she drinking during the day?

Hope things are going okay...

Does she have a late nap that leaves her not interested in bedtime until later?  What happens if you skip the dreamfeed?   Are you cluster-feeding in the evening?   That may leave her not very hungry at bedtime now that she's bigger.

Sorry I have more questions than answers!

Hi Guys

Thank you so much for your replies.  Only just got a chance to check.  It seems that it was teething that was interfering with the schedule!  I can feel a tooth just about to pop through (exciting eh?!).

She is now eating her dinner at 5pm, having a bath at 6.20pm, then story time (upstairs) and bottle.  She is drinking about 6.5 ozs which seems fine as she eats quite a bit of solids now.  She had weetabix with whole milk for breakfast (1 weetabix and she ate it all), a jar of baby food for lunch followed by pureed fruit (biggest meal of the day) and home made cauliflower cheese (same quantity as a jar) for dinner.  I find if I cut the fruit at dinner time she is hungry for her bottle at the right time.  She is not waking for a late feed and is sleeping through to 7am despite her teething.

When did you drop from four bottles to three?  She sometimes only drinks 4oz at her 11am and 3pm bottles.  Do you always give water/juice with solids?

Her routine is:
7am wake
7.30am bottle - drinks about 6oz max
8am - breakfast (weetabix etc.)
9-11am - sleep
11am - bottle (drinks about 4oz)
12 noon - lunch (protein, veg and fruit)
12.45 - 14.30 - sleep
15.00 - bottle (drinks about 4oz)
16.30-17.00 - nap
17.15 - dinner (protein and veg)
18.20 - bath
18.45 - story and then bottle (6.5oz)
19.00 - bed until 7am.

Any advice about when to drop a bottle and which one to drop would be appreciated.

Many thanks

x

I'm so glad it's going better for you!

I don't know whether this would translate to formula, but we went to 4 breastfeedings around 7-8 months, down to 3 at 9 months, and now (almost 11 months) are down to just wakeup & bedtime feedings with all other meals & snacks of solids with a sippy cup.
