How many oz should a 10wk old bf baby be eating per feed?
« on: October 01, 2005, 15:00:12 pm »
I have a 10 wk old. I went from being to pump 4-6 oz after a feed to only pumping 1oz. We found that it was because my daughter has a suck/swallow disorder. I rented a baby weigh scale to see how many oz she gets per feeding- at the most it has been 2/feed. In the past when I have given her a bottle w/ breast milk she has taken 3-4. I am concerned. Her bm's are not regular. She isn't gaining much weight but she isn't losing any. The doctor says that 2oz/feeding is fine and that it is ok if she doesn't have a bm every day. The lactation specialist says that she should be eating 3-4/feeding. Who do I believe?

If you are working with a lactation consultant, I would keep on working with them. They are trained specialists in breastfeeding. There are so many variables - like how big your baby is, how many times she is eating, etc. She will be able to help you work this out.
