longer sleeps = later feeding times. Help?
« on: October 02, 2005, 06:32:53 am »
Hi there, just a quick question if anyone has some advice. I have a 2 month old, he's healthy and happy and I have him on the EASY routine. My question is, he often goes for longer than 3 hours between feeds, usually because it takes him a while to fall into a deep sleep. I've tried waking him, but no matter what I do he always falls asleep after a few mins on the breast.

So do I leave him be, or persevere in waking him?
(he was slow to gain weight initially but has been doing well the lastfew weeks)

My lo sometimes does this too, she always has and I have tried everything to wake her and she just wouldn't, so I decided to leave her be, because it was just too frustrating to try to wake her and even when I did, she couldn't stay awake, so we would and sometimes still do, go 4 hours between feeds.  She normally wakes fairly easily if she's gotten 3/3.5 hours of sleep and then I feed her, but then she's gone 4 hours between feeds, however, it's always worked out and she's been fine.  She's gaining tons of weight, and still gets cluster fed normally for me it's 5/7/9 or 4/6/8 and I don't do a dreamfeed and she still sleeps 7-8 hours at a stretch at night.  So, see what works for you-hope this helps!

Thanks for your message Nancy, it definately helps to know that you've gone through this as well.  My instinct was to just let him be, as long as he's gaining weight etc, but it's good to have a second opinion.

Thanks again :)
