How awake is your DC when you put them down??
« on: October 03, 2005, 13:43:01 pm »
When I put my DS down for naps and night sleep I usually bounce him around the room since there is not a rocker in his room (shades closed, mostly dark).  It usually takes about 5 minutes and his eyes start to close-- when they close for about 30 seconds or so I lay him down.  They'll usually flutter back open when I lay him down, but then he's out.

I was thinking that I was putting him to sleep awake, but drowsy... now I'm kind of thinking maybe I'm basically putting him to sleep, asleep.

How awake is your DC when you put him down?

We try and keep our 2 awake as well - we made HUGE mistakes with Harry.  Took us the best part of 18 months to crack it.
Harry: 29 July 2003
Lydia: 28 June 2005
Sam:  28 June 2005
David: 28 June 2005 - 12 August 2005
Daniel: 19 July 2007
That's all folks!
(Well, maybe another girl if I can convince DH!)

Thanks for your quick responses!
Well, Patrick is 14 wks so hopefully we can start this now before it becomes an issue.

If I start to bounce him around the room as part of our wind down should I just shorten the amount of time so he's not falling asleep?
Or is this something that should be eliminated?

How do you wind down your DC for naps?

My ds is always wide awake when put down.  Wind down just consists of sitting together in the nursery and maybe looking at a book together or just talking.  I'm trying to remember when we started doing this, but I can't for the life of me remember.  I have a feeling we used to put him down when he was drowsier, but now he stays awake better himself until he is laid down in his cot.

Your lo is still only little so I'm sure if you think there could be possibility of any problems forming you can easily iron them out now.
