« on: October 03, 2005, 14:29:45 pm »

He used to be a good eater no breast milk and now have been put on formula and will only eat a few oz each time and no amount of persuasion will work. He's also taken to waking up after 45 min and won't go back to sleep & waking up in the middle of the night for a feed and waking up at 530 am! What else could go wrong???? Would really appreciate any help/ advice.

EASY Schedule so far:

5 ish am - Feed then sleep generally til 630 - 7 (if we're lucky)
7 am- Feed

9 - 930 am - go down for nap
1030 am - latest time he manages to sleep til
11 am - feed
1145/12 pm - 1245pm - solid (fruit/ vege)
1 - 130 pm - go down for nap
2pm - wake up and has to beheld to sleep for another 20 mins then sleeps for another cycle
3 pm - feed
545/6 pm - bath
615/ 630 pm - milk then rice cereal
7 - 730 pm - sleep - usually wake once before DF at 11 pm

Poor LO is starting to look rather tired altho he's still very active - started solids recently to try to add on the calories but to no avail! need help coz am more than a little tired!

1. Now that he has started cereal/solids, his need for formula or breastmilk is going to start to decrease. This is okay, it's all apart of the transition to solid foods.  In between his meals, offer the breast or bottle, as a snack.  Generally, an older infant is hungry after 4+ hours from the last meal.  Try not to force more amounts into him, he will only take so much.  Just go with the flow.

2.  For his 45 min. naps. Look at his awake time.. he may benefit from a longer awake time.  Also, do a pre-wind down routine (see announcement for short napping after 6 months) this is a good lead in for the wind down routine. Look at how he is falling asleep. Make sure he is falling asleep independently. At the 45 min. mark, give him a chance to resettle on his own, many infants will cry out at the end of a sleep cycle-- if he knows how to self soothe, he will resettle into sleep.

Hang in there.. everything is a bit wonky right now, but will return!
