questions about solid feedings with 7 month old
« on: October 03, 2005, 16:33:45 pm »
My DD will be seven months so soon and she is eating very well, she has 3 solids a day and then breastfeeds 4-5 times.  she is very hand to mouth coordinated for her age and I know I can start letting her feed herself finger foods, but my question is what ??  I feel so clueless to this whole feeding thing, I am so afraid of her choking that she is on stage 2 foods right now.  she is teething and her first tooth just poked through, its just a little nub, if that.  what can i feed her now that she is getting older? I have been making her cereal thicker and not watering down her foods as much, it seems to be better for her.  and should I introduce a theething bisquit?  I know they make baby crackers and what not for this age, is this the appropriate time to do this???  thanks so much for the advice, I feel so clueless when it comes to mothering these days :?

It sounds like she will relish a bit of independence in her eating; small  pieces of fruit which will melt in her mouth; banana for example. The same would work with roasted veg; carrot for example. Another great way of introducing some texture to her food would be to start grating her fruit rather than simmering them; more nutritious too! I am just starting my little one on finger food and am completely terrified of her chocking. Sticking with what i just told you. SO far so good

Have you tried cheerios? She can easily pick them up, and you don't have to fear her choking on them, since they melt pretty easily in the mouth. Another option is cheese. I gave my lo, small bite size peices of cheese, and she seemed fine with them. Or, banana coated with cereal, so it doesn't slip out of her grasp, when she wants to pick it up. Again, it would melt in her mouth and not choke her.

Can't think of anything else at the moment. If I do, I will let you know.

my lo loves rice crackers with or w/o cream cheese spread on it and little bits of cheese slices.  The rice crackers are mini ones that melt v quickly in the mouth.  Also she loves sucking on bits of bread or buttered toast -  bits won't break off so easily if there is melted butter melted on it.  She hates anything grated though.
