Milk in recipes?
« on: October 03, 2005, 20:16:32 pm »
I would like to make my own foods like egg custard etc but in my cookbooks for babies they always say to use milk even in the 6-8mth old section.  I know you are not supposed to give dairy until 12mths, but do you use cows milk or do you use formula?  Has anyone else made these sort of things and if so, what sort of milk did you use?  If you use formula, did it turn out okay?

Any help would be great.  Just a little confused about what to do. :?

If the milk is cooked it is ok (ie boiled) as it breaks down the protein.
But you shouldn't use eggs yoks until at least 9mo & egg white until 12mo...next to peanuts/ peanut butter, eggs cause very dangerous allergic reactions.

I used formula once but then worried about freezing it, so I used cows milk after that, I've had no problems at all.

Thanks everyone for your replies.  I was always very aware of allergies - this was more for future reference.  I will probably try in the next few months.

Once again, thank you
