broad beans, kiwi, fromage frais etc- when?
« on: October 04, 2005, 12:12:50 pm »
health visitor suggests petit filous fromage frais from 4 months but they have added sugar and are quite expensive, can i just use plain and add my own fruit puree? ds is 5.5 months and eating solids for 4 weeks
can't find anywhere about broad beans or peas - any ideas also kiwi and strawberries, when can i give them, no known allergies in my family, nut for SIL and FIL
Thanks, just trying to broaden DS' tastes but not too sure - he has gobbled up everything so far!

I did not like the fromage frais either; too sweet. Natural youghurt with whatever fruit yo are doing at the moment is absolutely fine although I do not think I would start that until six months. Kiwi too. Strawberries; as long as they are cooked you can introduce them at four months, raw; not until six. My little one or me or DH have no allergies but strawberries are known to cause reactions in very small babies. Have you tried blueberries? they are excellent mixed with apple or banana and are a superfood; they fight cancer, viruses etc...

No idea about broad beans. ( did not know they were good for anything but causing gas)

I think peas are considered one of the safest things to add early on but as kiwis and strawbs caused allergic reactions in my family I would leave them till later.

I think peas are safe but make sure they are really cooked and pureed well as they are hard to digest. They are coming out whole at the other end in my toddler at the moment!!!!

have you ried the Danone baby yogurts, they have diff ones for 4 and 6mo. Not sure about the sugar content though. Personally we've had youghurts since 5mo and no sugar addtiction to speak of, she has her teeth cleaned twice a day and lots of fruit has just as much sugar in it anyway. Fromage frais is so easy to just grab out the fridge and its full of protein.

If you can be bothered to make your own though, good on you. :D
