What have i done wrong with my 4 month old someone help!
« on: October 06, 2005, 13:50:57 pm »
My Ds has been a great sleeper since he was born. He goes down for naps no problem and re settles him self sometimes. He does have adummy though. However  for the past two nights been awake literally every hour, not hungry( i dont think so anyway  ) just restless and crying, this usually happens from 2am onwards until 6 or 7am when i eventually feed him.

On Tuesday we started on the four hour easy routine, so his awake timeis now 2 hours and he now has two 2hour naps  and has a catnap from 5pm until 6pm. So his total sleep time in the day is 4 and a half to 5 hours.

He is still having the same amount of ounces (36) over 5 bottles, inc dream feed, So he isnt eating any lessthan when he was on 3 hr. I have tried giving him more at each feed but he wont take anymore.

Why is he doing this?

Too much or too little sleep during the day?

Dependent on Dummy??

Teething... he does have red cheeks but i cant feel anything coming through.

Could he be ill? he seems okay in himself but he has been sneezing and his breathing through his nose sounds all bubbly.

I feel so bad on him, i feel as though i should have just stayed on the three hour routine.

Do you think he will get used to it or should i adjust my day.
His day ideally starts at 7am, i am doing things correct with his naps etc.

How many naps should a four mnth old have?  Would you change anything?

Soemone please help me i am so tired

Kelly xx

P.s This is what i have been trying to follow...

Your schedule looks spot on to me, mine was pretty much the same at four months. It also does not sound like dummy dependancy, I do not think that arises overnight, esp. if he was able to settle himself before. Most likely he is teething. My advice is try to stick to the routine both of you are used to, I do the same after a disrupted day and we are usually back on track within three days. Hugs, I know how tiring it can be.

It sounds to me like he may have a little cold or something and he could be waking due to his nose stopping up?  Try to run a humidifier in his room if you don't already and they do make those plug in vaporizing strips that may help with his breathinf as well.  Since this just started 2 days ago that is why I am thinking he is sick.  try to stick to your routine as much as possible during this time but realize that if he is sick it may not work out to well.  I think he will be back to normal eventually.  Hang in there.  Also, he may be old enough for the infant decongestant drops, check with your doctor.  HTH.  You are not doing anything wrong, so just hang in there.

Thank you both for your advise.  I,m thinking its a cold or teething so im going to give his some Medicine tonight and hope it will knock him out for the evening!! :?

I hate using medicines but i am desperate :) I will look for those decongestant drops as well.

thanks again xx

Elise has been doing the same thing!  She can grunt/talk/move around in her crib forever in the morning - not so fun for me & my husband to listen to.  She's been waking up around 4/5 & is off & on until 7ish when I get her up to feed.  I've been wondering if I should do something different with her bedtime.  She has nearly the same daily schedule as your baby with 3 naps - but goes to bed around 8:00.  Anyone have any ideas?  Let me know if yours gets better!

Are you saying that your baby usually sleeps 17 hours in a 24 hour period?  Is that normal for a 4 month old?  Mine only sleeps 15 at the most.  Maybe he doesn't need as much sleep anymore.
