From not sleeping for more than 20mins - now sleeping 5-7hrs
« on: October 10, 2005, 03:58:01 am »
Hi everyone.  I just wanted to pass on this information in the evernt that it may help someone.  My SIL had terrible trouble with her 5mo DS, he wasn't sleeping for more that 20 - 40 mins at a time, and it could take hours for her to get him back to sleep.  You can imagine how difficult things were.  She went to a sleep clinic for 5 days ( where you and your lo stay and the staff halp you to get through any sleeping issues) they don't her that they had never seen such a drastic case, and they weren't sure what they could do for her.  her 5 days didn't seem to be too helpful (although she got to share and bond with other exhausted, frustrated mums)

When she got home, her LO slept for a 5 hour stretch!  and the only thing that was different was that he slept on his tummy!  Now I dont' know whether the answer was as simple as that, but since he's been sleeping on his tummy he has been a different child and they are all getting much more sleep.

Also another thing I thought was a good idea.  Her lo uses a dummy, and he constantly wakes up through the night when wants it back.  THey have taught him to grab the dummy himself and bring it to his mouth.  He often gets it backwards or sideways, but he's getting better!  and they are thinking of placing several dummies around his cot so that at night he will find at least one of them and be able to put it in his mouth and soothe himself back to sleep!

No idea if this will help anyone, but just wanted to share.   :)

Thats a great idea, cant wait for my lo to be able to put his dummy back in, he can just about hold it himself now so maybe in  a few weeks he too will be able to put it back in himself.

So glad your friend is getting some sleep, i cant imagine what she went through.

Kelly x :)
