When to drop the late afternoon catnap?
« on: October 10, 2005, 23:42:37 pm »
DD 6mths has been on EASY since about 8wks old and is pretty much like clockwork. She currently naps from 9-11am and 1-3pm with a 30-45min catnap somewhere around 5-5.30pm. She then sleeps from 7pm to 6.30-7am.

So when do we drop the late afternoon catnap? And when this goes do the daytime nap times change? How do you tell that they're ready to drop the late afternoon catnap?

Hi Kylie,

It sounds like you lo's routine is perfect to me.  I wouldn't change anything until you start having sleep problems.  We dropped the catnap when she just wouldn't sleep at that time anymore.

exactly...if your lo is still sleepy and ready to fall asleep at bedtime don't worry.

When our lo was almost 6 months, we dropped the catnap because his 7 pm bedtime ended up changing to 8 pm.  After taking the catnap away, he was fine.  Even now, occasionally, if he wakes before 2:30 pm rather than 3 pm, I will let him catnap in order to keep him happy.  However, he usually doesn't even want to!

Cheers!
