enough feeds?
« on: October 12, 2005, 08:31:23 am »
Hello fabulous mummys (and daddys),
just wondering if anyone sees any probs with this EBF routine? I guess I'm concerned my DS may not be getting enough, although clearly his sleeping and awake behaviours should be enough to reassure me.

7 or 8am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 5.30 or 6pm, 12 midnight, 5 am
He missed the 12 midnight feed last night! He's nearly 11 weeks old.

Thanks for any comments - nervous nelly that I am.
Cheers, Jo

Looks like it's OK to me.  Some mums cluster feed in late afternoon, early evening to add in some extra cals during the daytime - feeding every couple of hours rather than every 3.

If you're baby is happy, has times of being alert, is gaining weight, producing plenty of wet and dirty nappies, then my guess is that all is well.  If he wasn't getting enough calories I assume that he'd be waking more than once a night due to hunger.

As long as he is gaining weight, and happily going between feeds, then his schedule is perfect. Watch out for that 3 month grow spurt - he may want to nurse more often for a few days.

Thanks for the reassurance and the heads up for the 3 month growth spurt. Sometimes it's good to just get confirmation from others with a bit more experience, I'm indebted to this website for that. Keep up the good work of info sharing and "passing it forward", it really makes a difference.
Cheers, Jo
