She's always tired...please help!
« on: October 12, 2005, 16:30:55 pm »
We were having a problem with early wakings.  But within the past two weeks I moved her bedtime from 7-7:30 to 6:45-7:15....mostly about 6:45 p.m. and she's been sleeping to 6:30-7 in the morning (only one time did she wake before 6 and maybe twice before 6:30).

But now that she's sleeping between 11.25-12 hours at night, she gets tired around 10 a.m.  Sometimes even sooner around 9 a.m.  I keep her up during this time and her nap is at noon.  She then sleeps anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 hours (usually around 1.5 though) ....

Should I attempt a 10 a.m. nap?  But then we're in trouble because if she sleeps 1.5 hours....she has to go from 11:30 to 6:30...that's a bit long.  I just don't get why she's always tired.

Usually what happens is she has been getting tired between 9-10 a.m. and then by 10:30ish she has her second wind so when I put her in at 11 or 11:30, she talks and talks until I go in and resettle her.  Then she normally cries for 5 minutes and is out.

Today my husband and I went to do some errands and she fell asleep in the car at 10:00 a.m. for 15 minutes so now she won't go down and its 12:30

How old is your DD?
Emily is 21 months and she goes to bed at 6.25pm and wakes between 6.15-6.45am.
She is always really tired and whiney about 10-10.30am but she will not sleep.I take Jessica to school at 12.15pm and on the walk back (15 mins in all) she sleeps and I put her in the cot until she wakes up at about 2.30pm.
You could try the morning sleep. It's not that long to wait until bedtime, only an hour difference between am and pm nap)
You may find, depending on her age, that she has a short nap in the morning and a longer one in the afternoon.
Give it a go and see how she is.
Let me know how it goes

Thanks for the advice.  I am going to see what time she starts to look real tired and put her in .... I am thinking if she starts at 9, then I will put her in by 9:30...take my shower and see if she's sleeping.  If she's up and talking, then I may just take her out and then let her go until 12...we'll play it by ear until I get it figured out.  It took me awhile to figure out the 6:30-6:45 bedtime so I'm just guessing, I have to find her thing with naps too.  I hope!

I know this sounds strange, but would a snack help get her past that sleep time?  My dd gets very cranky around 10 or 10:30 without a snack.  Is she already having one?  Just checking...  That might help her have some more energy to make it a bit longer.

So last night she went to bed at 6:30...fell asleep at 6:45 and this morning I woke up at 7:11 to her in her crib playing.  GREAT!  Well at 8:30 the yawns and eye rubbing started...so I put her in her crib at 8:45.  Right now I hear her whining but not crying.  I figure I'm going to jump in the shower and then check on her.  If she's sleeping, then fine, but if not, then I will get her up and attempt the 12:00 nap.

I told my husband to turn on the monitor when he leaves.  Carmela is a very noisy sleeper so we usually don't leave the monitor on but now it's obvious that she's waking early (even though Chris checks at 5-6 when he's up and she's asleep) and I just don't hear her.  So I really don't know what to do.  I hate seeing her so tired and I also feel house bound because I know if I went out right now she'd fall asleep in the car or stroller and then she'd fight a second nap.

I really am confused on this one.  How can she be tired after getting 12 hours sleep?

I think your right watch for when she gets tired then put her in the cot even if she doesnt sleep she can just rest..and then try later...if you leave her in the cot she might eventually drop off?
