When do they go to bed later?
« on: October 13, 2005, 00:28:29 am »
My daughter is currently 18 months old and going to bed between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m.  She definitely needs this sleep as when she goes to bed later she's up early in the morning.  But is there an age that they can handle a later bedtime? While the early bedtime isn't bad during the week and for a short time, we are hoping possibly by next summer of getting our nights back!

Thanks :)

When do they go to bed later?

Hi there-- I too had a very early riser (5/5:30pm) and had to revert to a very early bedtime when ds was 18 months old. He was going to bed at 6:30 , waking 5:30am and crashed and burned around 10/10:30am most days...as I work full time, it was hard to keep him on a schedule because he would often fall asleep in the babysitter's car. ANd he was only sleeping about 1.5 hours for his nap.
At about 22 months, he started waking up a little later and we gradually started putting him to bed @ 6:45-7:15pm.

This past summer(he was 2.5 years old), he was able to stay awake until 8/8:30, even 9pm on weekend nights and took a good 2-3 hour nap and woke 6:30-7pm most mornings and he would not crash and burn in the car in the early morning so I do think that you will definitely have less restrictions next summer... :)

ANyways, just our experiences with a sleep sensitive child!

I think it depends on the child. My 4 year old goes to bed at 7pm.My 21 month old goes to bed at 6.30pm.They both wake up about 6ish.Earlier if htey go to bed later.
If we're out and they have to stay up late,I always take pj's if I can and put them to bed as soon as I get in.Usually they're up earlier and cranky all day though.
Some children on that I know go to bed between 8-9pm and are fine.It really depends.I would just like some lay in now and then. The only way I get them is if they do to Nany and Grandads for the weekend
