Son is 15 months eating solids. Need other Food ideas.
« on: October 13, 2005, 10:51:46 am »
I am a stay at home Dad and want to know what your little ones like to eat.

My son likes:

Mac N Cheese
Hot Dogs w/ ketchup or mustard on the side.
(Its 50/50 if he eats the whole dog.)
Yogurt
Sliced Apple to eat creamy peanut butter with.
Spagetti w/ sauce
Bits of sliced cheeze and ham
Little smoky sausages that he sucks the flavor out of then spits out the remaining meat.

He has turned into a cookie monster so no cookies within view.

He was mostly breast fed but is recently converted to a bottle/whole milk.
Never had the formula. Would not keep it down then would refuse the bottle back then.
Usually  4 to 6 oz a bottle once or twice a day depending on his mood.

At dinner time he is always given a serving of what we eat. That is usually a hit or miss depending what it is.
If he does not like eating a new thing he wants out of his high chair and is willing to sit with you and taste test what you eat and feed it to you in the process  :D

Looking for solid food ideas besides the hotdog or macaroni meal.

Tyler's 21 mo, and sandwiches are big here, especially grilled cheese or peanut butter and just about anything (I cheat and spread veggie puree on the other slice of bread). I tear the sandwich into bits small enough for him. He also likes:
- Cooked bits of veggies if they're doused in cheese sauce
- Anything covered in pasta sauce or barbecue sauce
- Fruit, fruit, and more fruit, especially bananas
- Healthy cereal, like wheat chex or cheerios
- Grated raw carrot
- Hummus (nutritious chickpea spread, good on sandwiches or crackers)
- "pizza" (spread tomato sauce on bread, top with cheese, microwave or broil til cheese melts)

I hope I've given you some ideas! :D

Funny you posted this question, our ds also 15 months has a very similar taste buds to yours.  Loves the hotdogs and mac n cheese at the moment.  And of course yogurt! And fruit, fruit ,and more fruit.  Thanks for the "pizza" idea Melissa, we'll give it a try too:D I really like hummus, do you buy the kind that is plain or the kind that is flavored with garlic, etc for Tyler?

I started with the plain hummus, but he loves the garlic kind too! Go figure!

My son is almost 15 months too. Here is what he eats:

Breakfast: cereal, fruit, and milk
Cereal: baby or regular oatmeal, toddler cereal, whole wheat cheerios
    Fruit: Applesouce, bananna

Lunch: grilled sandwhich with cheese, canadian bakon and tomato, with milk and fruit or fruit smoothie (blend forzen fruit with milk and a touch of maple syrup or honey) or scamblled egg with cheese and toast.

Dinner: whatever we eat: vegetable, meat , starch and fruit
For the vegetable dish, he loves carrots or sweet potatos just plain boiled or baked. In general, a bit of onion and garlic will make him eat anything. ;)
Meat: not really a bit meat eater, but loves sausage, salmon, catfish, meatballs.
Starch: potato (baked or mashed or fried with onions), brown rice in peanut saouce, whole wheet pasta with pesto, cous-cous.

Snacks: cheerios, tricuts with cheese, fruit, rasins, yogurt, hummus, penut butter, cereal bar, granola.

Hope that gives you some ideas. Let me know if you need recipes for any of the things. :)

Bolognaise - make up a batch and freeze it

Chicken casserole with rice - add lots of veg and then pulse it in a blender so that they're not obvious

Soups - I make butternut and carrot, broccoli and courgette and give him pieces of bread to dip - and he loves them and it's a great way to get veges into him

Fish fingers
