Finally, it really was a tooth!  I'm not sure if it has been teething all these months b/c this came through without hardly any incident.  I gave the teething tablets and motrin, and she's done great.
Daylight savings time...well, the first day I held her off to within 30 minutes of normal wake up time.  She's very happy to roll around and babble in her crib in the morning; rarely cries.  So, her whole day was shifted up 30 minutes, but bedtime at usuall time.  However, today, the 2nd day after, she still woke early.  I'm wondering if it's the terribly bright light.  There is a blackout shade over her window, but light still comes through the side.  I might have to do some creative reconstructing of this shade.  Or else, I'll have to adjust to an earlier waking.
She's almost crawling.  She gets one knee pushed forward, then turns back to sitting.  She's also making an arch by pushing to stand but hands still on the ground.  This is so fun, but now I see why many of you have mentioned it being emotional to watch your lo learn these things.

Julie - glad that you guys are okay, even though the aftermath is horrible.  At least you guys have a place to stay with power and water!

So far we haven't had any problems with the daylight savings time.  I kept Ethan up until 8 pm Saturday night, and then put him to bed.  Sunday morning he woke at 5 am, babbled for about 15 minutes, then fell back asleep until 7!  (these are the new times - not the old!).  So, Sunday we were on schedule.  This morning he woke up about 6:30 or 6:45 babbling to himself.  So, I got up him at 7 as usual.  So, so far so good!

Of course, Ethan still has a cold.  The runny nose and congestion seem to be getting better, but he decided to vomit all over me twice today, right after his bottles.  He keeps his solid food down though.  I think what is happening is that he is eating his bottle, then he either needs to burp, or chokes a little bit on the phlegm, and up it comes.

Anyway, at this afternoon's feed, I'm going to try and do 1/2 a bottle at a time and see if it won't stay down.  Other than that, he is acting completely normal!  Which is why I haven't taken him to the doc - he has no fever anymore, and is just still a bit congested with a bit of a cough.  I think the vomiting has more to do with that than anything else.

Well, I still have to jump in the shower so have a great rest of the day ladies!  And for those of you dressing up the kiddos - have a fun Halloween!

Julie - glad you are ok - my mom is in Florida and they just got power back yesterday - not fun when you have a 93 year old with you (my mom had to buy her a portable colour TV and a miner's lamp so she could still keep her occupied  )  They are in West Palm Beach from Oct/Nov through to May (i keep telling her to go down later in the year afetr all the hurricanes  )

Heather - i am so happy you have a tooth and crawling etc wow what a week.  we still have absolutely no sign of any teeth coming!!!

JulieB - you will laugh - i looked at my TBS measures and both are american made and one even says on the underside "15ml" so i have been all over theplace wih my quantities - anyway - she eats what she wants so i guess it is just life taking the pi@s out of me for checking up on how much she eats   she is a fat and generally happy kid  :D

Us - the past week things just were too hard - Olivia is crawling properly now and between that and the fevers i was exhausted - the crawling is totally ruining her ability to settle down to naps and she is all over the place. i have had to do pat/shh a lot and this morning was the worst - woke at 445am to practice crawling - I tried Shh/Pat until 0530 when i gave up out of exhaustion and went back to bed - she was not back to sleep until almost 6am (see post in the getting back on track forum) she wakes form naps midway crying... moving all over the cot and so upset - she just wants to sleep but her body seems to have a mind of its own - any ideas??

supposed to be going out to see Pride and Prejudice tonight but friends rescheduled for 9:15 start time which gets out at 11:20pm - how does everyone else have that much energy - and some of these people are PG or have 2-3 kids at home   must be just me.  Dh is telling me to go anyway as i will feel better for having been "out" - not sure.

Tammy - when DD had a cold she threw up after her bottles. I was told when their noses are stuffy they breath through their mouths which causes them to to take in too much air. I found burping DD more frequently until her nose cleared up seemed to do the trick.

Hope this info helps?

Hello everyone!

We got capped so couldn't access the site for a week and a half, I've been thinking about you all. JulieG I'm so glad to see that you're alright, despite how bad the storm turned out.

Deb, I know exactly what you're going through wrt crawling all over the place and not sleeping. Luka now goes down on his back, otherwise he's up on all fours rocking. I'm sorry to hear that Liv was ill, how is she today? And how are YOU?

Tammy: I hope Ethan is feeling better and you too.

Tarri: your dog sounds very cute! free entertainment is nice hey?

Jaime: how goes the job and salary situation?

US: Thank you for the tips on Luka's sleeping. Yesterday we managed 2 naps at least, and today he's already had one nap for the day. We're still really struggling with nightwakings, but he goes down for the night much easier than before.

I just cannot figure out why he wakes. We thought it was the temperature in the bedroom, so we've sorted it out as best we can by using a fan and him sleeping in just a vest. But it makes no difference. Last night was a good night and he woke 5 times   :?
Pat/shh doesn't work, he just screams till I pick him up. And then screams till I give in and feed him. I'm really at my wits end. :(

Thanks for letting me moan.

Everyone else: hope you're doing well!

Hi all,

New to this post I have been on the boards for a while but tend to just have aread of them rather than post too much.  It's nice to find a post of people with babies around the same age.  At least now I have asounding board !!!!

My name is Nicol I am 28 and live with my boyfriend of 11 years.  We live in Basingstoke, UK.  I am now back at work and really enjoying it.  It's nice to have some time on my own and with adult conversation.

My little boy Connor is nearly 10 months old.  He is a very spirited little one and knows his own mind.  Didn't think that happened until they were much older !!!!!  Connor goes to Nursery while I am at work and he loves it.  He spends his days flirting with all the girls !!!!!

Will hopefully catch up with you all again soon.

hi everyone,

JulieG - glad you're doing well.  how can your work even THINK about working when they have no power!     hope it all gets sorted out.

Heather - yay!  a tooth!!!

Branwen - yes, i have to keep my job.  a few too many things have happened that have made my income necessary.  unfortuately dh's salary can't pay them all.   :(   he got a new job right before jaina was born (after having been out for about a year! due to layoffs) but it was at a pay cut compared to his last job.

Us - well the salary thing is moving slowly.  part of the problem is that private schools do not have to publish or release any information to the public about their salary schedules.  but we're a non-profit school that has to (in theory) show it to anyone who asks.

But!  i have found out that the superintendent has asked our guidance secretary (who is also underpaid  ) to be getting this type of information.  guess the finance department ratted me out.  he wants to go to the Board with it... to do what i don't know.  not quite sure what to make of this yet.

anyhow, we're doing well.  overall, daylight savings seems to be making cr@p out of luke's afternoon nap.  soooo short lately!  but i think the sitter has been letting him sleep longer than he should in the morning too, so i don't know.

here's some recent pix - we went to the pumpkin patch saturday & there's a couple of luke's costume too.   :D

Asher had his 9 month check up today.  29.5 inches and 23 lbs 1 oz.   I swear that must be wrong.  He doesn't seem like 23 lbs.  And I have a couple friends with babies that weight (maybe slightly shorter though), and Asher seems so skinny compared to them.  Not that I mind, I'm just surprised.

The doctor had no comment on the spit up volume  :? , though it's been surprisingly less frequent the past couple days.  :D   She said the stuffiness at night is because of the high pollen count here.  I guess everyone has it like that and we just have to deal with it.  Poor guy wakes with a heart-breaking squealing cry at least once every night before 10 pm.  She also said the "flea bites" were normal and some kids have them until they're two.  I talked to her about starting dairy, wheat, and eggs and she recommended waiting until 1 year for especially wheat and egg yolks (since a bit of white could remain).  I'm kind of bummed, but not surprised.

We've been having awful problems with early morning wakings.  I could just cry most mornings.      Can't figure it out at all because it's pitch black outside.  I'm ready to just give in for a while, then see if I can start working it back slowly.  Kinda a "restart"?

He's also working on his 8th tooth, and hopefully last for a while!      This has been one nonstop teething marathon month!

Deb: Your tablespoon saga gave me a big ole laugh!!     I think you hit the nail on the head by saying:
Quote (selected)
she eats what she wants so i guess it is just life taking the pi@s out of me for checking up on how much she eats  she is a fat and generally happy kid

I've pretty much came to the same conclusion myself.  It's been too hard to keep track of the volume since I make his food, so I just eyeball it.  If he wolfs it down, I give him a bit more the next time, if not, oh well!
Hope the crawling thing sorts itself in a bit.  Not much to suggest since it seemed like Asher dealt with it pretty well.  I think I just let him do his thing, then when he started yelling to me when he was finally ready to go to sleep, I'd go back in and put him "back together" and off he'd go.  Transitions have always been much worse for us than the beginnings though.  Sometimes the routine just has to go out the window.  Hard when you have another little one though, I can imagine.  I totally know what you mean about their little bodies just have to GO!  I seriously wonder about "restless leg syndrome"!
And I'm with you, I'd be SO tired for anything past 10 pm!  Especially since Asher starts hootin & hollerin at 5 am!  But it sounds like a fun, once in a while treat, so maybe you can have a cup of coffee?    I LOVE P&P!  Especially with Colin Firth!  Woo woo!

JulieB: Relieved to hear from you!!  Glad your family is safe.

Schae:  I feel your pain!  I've been there myself!  Hugs to you!

Hope everyone can get the daylight savings time sorted out with your little ones!!  Loving all the photos!  Keep them coming!  I got prof photos of Asher's costume, so cute!  I'll post when I get them back in another week or so.

I LOVE everyone's Halloween costumes!!!!! We posted our picture in the photo gallery. Leah was a skunk. She was pretty cute!!!

JulieG - Glad to hear you are OK. What a terrible ordeal.

Heather- Congrats on the tooth. I see Leah's left eye tooth is coming through now too. That would make three for us!

JulieG - We have Leah's 9 month check up on Monday. I'm guessing she'll be right around the same measurments. Will let you know.

Daylight savings time actually wasn't too bad for us. We are having early wake ups too. But I found if I feed her as soon as I hear her, I will get another hour and a half out of her. We are struggling to drop a bottle and struggling with feeding purreed foods too. Ahhh!!! That's life with a baby right?

Well, work is VERY busy so I haven't had time to check in much. November is crazy - Parent/Teacher Conferences, report cards, on and on....... SO, I may be missing for awhile. but know that I'm checking in on you and keeping up!!  :D I LOVE reading everyone's posts!

Just real quick, time for mommy to hit the sack.
Kelsey's 9 month checkup:  19 lbs, 6.5 oz, 27 inches
She will have to have an echocardiogram because dr detected a heart murmur that had disappeared since age 4 months (?).  I'm scared.
He said to keep her at 24 oz of formula, so I either need to continue with 4 6 oz bottles, or drop to 3 8 oz bottles.
Everything else okay.  I found her kneeling in her crib holding onto the rails this morning.  I just had to laugh.  Still trying to crawl, but getting closer every day.

Heather, I hope Kelsey's heart check up goes okay.  Is it soon?  She certainly is very healthy and happy in her videos:)

JulieB, Emily woke at 5:30am.  I felt like throttling her (just kidding of course) when I went into her room this morning but as soon as I turned on the light she started laughing.  Eeesh...she's acting just like a baby!  I have zero luck with getting her back to sleep in the early morning or after a short nap, so I just get her up slowly and start the day, otherwise I get too grumpy!  I managed to hold her off till 8:45 for her morning nap so hopefully we can make it to a slightly later bedtime.

Schae, did you hear anything about your job interview?

Us, dh started a new job on Monday.  So we're getting into a new routine here.  It's such a relief when he gets home and plays with Emily for awhile, it perks her up just when she needs it most:)

Hello everyone, we've slowed down a lot.. how come? I miss the updates from Luka's birthmonth buddies :D

I thought I'd just update you on us:
Luka is sleeping so much better. Tonight we had one (yep, ONE) nightwaking and that was due to him being hot. We still don't have a/c, but are using a good old fashioned fan. The electricity bill is going to exciting  It is HOT HOT HOT here, was 36 degrees celcius (96.8 ) today, I'm very afraid of December.

On the job front... got turned down today because apparently I'm too expensive :? And this is when I ask for the bare minimum that we need in order to survive. And they wanted me to run an entire department for the salary of someone just out of highschool. So I guess it's their loss.
I'm still feeling positive though, something good HAS to happen.

I hope everyone else is doing well, please don't be so scarce. :)

Here's a pic of Luka and his latest crawling style

Hi everyone!

Still so jealous of everyones crawling babies!!! Eirwen is just content to roll over now.  I had the ped check her "standing" at her 9 month check because she still does not stand when I hold her.  She holds her hips/legs out like a L she is really strong!!!  He thought it was so funny but eventually she did drop to her feet and then after a bit of crying finally put weight on her feet.  He says I have to make her do it! :? I feel so mean....

Anyway she was 19lbs and 3 oz and is 30.5 inches tall   Ped was stunned about her height but at least I have an explaination about why the 12 month pants I have are suddenly too short.  She really hasn't gained that much weight....her buddha belly is thinning out...I think it is the height. I hope that is ok.

Ped gave horrid advice/comments about breastfeeding.  I wanted to kill him.  He actually stated in distain "you've never offered her formula" as if there is something wrong with me.  Then he asked "well, how long do you plan to continue with that"  meaning breastfeeding.  Then when I questioned about the flu vacinne he started in about daycare and blah blah...I had to interrupt him and remind him that Eirwen is not in daycare.  I think this guy was high or something...or he had me confused with someone else which I find really hard to believe since I've now known him for 4 years.  I know that working mom's are pretty standard these days and all but I felt like such a freak...

Heather- about heart murmur.  Don't worry.  I had one at birth and until I was a teenager they could still hear it and then puberty hit and it went away.  I was fine..I'm sure Kelsey will be too!  I feel for you though I'd be a wreck, just try not to think about it too much!

Schae- you will find something!  And good for you for not settling for peanuts  I think you have separatio anxiety issues???

Deb & JulieB- ohhhh I have a secret lust for Colin Firth.  Is that out in the states yet?

Welcome Nic!

Where is Hazel these days?

Yeah, I miss the updates as well!  Guess everyone's staying on their toes with their busy babies!

Speaking of busy, Asher is SO busy!  It's tiring at times!  And he still isn't back on good naps.  The afternoon nap was 45 minutes again today, after two days of 1.5 hrs.      He was making great strides in his walking practice today.  It's so funny!  He walks like a sissy!   He kind of prances and takes all of these dainty little steps, holding his hands out in front of him.  I know he'll get better, but it's hilarious right now.  He's walking across the room now whereas yesterday he was still only going 3-5 ft at most!  And he seemed to have better control of where he wants to go today, turning and walking around objects as opposed to just going in a straight line.

I've started moving Asher's bedtime back gradually.  He "slept" in longer the last two mornings, though he still woke and cried out at 5 am (then 5:20, 6:00, 6:40, and 7:15).  But he quickly snoozed back to sleep as opposed to the party he has most mornings.  There's hope maybe afterall!

DH has a job interview on Wed. for a job he doesn't want, but would hopefully pay better.  He's also going out of town all weekend.  My little sister is going to spend the night since I get nervous.     I'm going to a parenting seminar by an author of a book I'm reading on Sunday.  MIL is going to watch Asher for the afternoon.  Should be okay...

Schae: That is hot (and I know hot!)!  And no A/C?!  How can you stand it?!  That's worth buying a window unit or something!    Luka's crawling is funny!  Asher doesn't crawl much anymore and when he does, it's on one foot and one knee, like he's getting ready to pull him self up whenever he reaches his destination.  Too busy for proper crawling now, I guess!!

Branwen: Can't believe your pediatrician!!!   :x   I would have been SO annoyed!  Asher's never had formula either.  Thankfully my doc fully supports me.  (and you're not a freak!!)  Also can't believe how tall Eirwen is!!    Super model on your hands, huh?    Is that measurement straight from head to heel or do they wrap it around her head to the top of her crown?  Just curious since I hear doctors all do it differently (ours does straight with Asher laying down, head against wall, heel against measuring board).  So did he say you should be practicing the standing with her?  Or is it still early and not something to worry about?
