I got crazy today and gave Asher two tiny bits of turkey bacon this morning and a few tiny bits of chicken from my lunch. He liked them both so maybe I'll actually prepare some of his own. He's been surprisingly good at eating lately -- liking a wide variety of tastes and textures now it seems. Doesn't care for kiwi though. Too sour, I guess!
And the spit up, or lack there of, has been going really well. He still spits up, but nothing like it was. It's pretty limited to just two periods a day, mornings after BF/before breakfast and afternoons after BF/before dinner. I guess he doesn't have enough solids in his tummy to keep the liquid down during those times. :?: Does anyone feed breakfast before BF or a bottle? How does that work? I'm thought about switching those around, but I wonder if I could prepare breakfast fast enough for him. I've tried giving him a "snack" right after BF in the morning, but that didn't stop the spit up until I actually fed him breakfast.
Deb, don't feel silly about the dream feed! For goodness sake, you were certainly not the only one! Asher still woke once for a full feed until he was over 7 months old! In retrospect, I SHOULD have done a dreamfeed and maybe I would have gotten more sleep in those first 7 months! As you know, every baby's different so I think it was good you went with your gut and kept it as long as you did. Glad to hear dropping it is going well so far. Lord knows we all need the sleep! Sometimes you just do what you gotta do!
Branwen, I was reading an article by Dr. Sears in one of my parenting magazines the other day. He was going over the popular questions parents ask him and one was about helping their child to walk sooner. He basically said there's a wide time frame for milestones, each baby is different, and there wasn't too much we should or could do. He said the more important measurement is if your baby is doing more this month than last. If not, then there is cause to concern. I think Deborah echoed this in the PT's concern about Maya slowing down this month instead of moving more. You mention that Eirwen is rolling all over, so she's gaining mobility and that IS big improvement!
However, I would have a bit of concern about her not wanting to put pressure on her legs because I believe that IS a milestone that should have hit by now if I remember right. So I'd get it checked out to see if she's okay (not in pain, etc) and if there's something you should do to help her gain leg strength (like the jumper or walker??).
Asher's tantrum behavior varies, but it's often yelling/grunting and tighting up all his muscles. Sometimes he throws himself back, breaks into a cry, bites, or hits.
Joanne, could Hannah be cold? Hot? Seperation anxiety? Does she have a luvie? Teething? I'd be surprised if she were hungry.
Kate, Asher doesn't play a whole lot with other babies right now. We occasionally make it to playgroups. But I don't sweat it right now because I read that children don't really learn to share and make friends before 2 or 3 years old. Before then, they're just playing side by side really, not "together." I read (and personally believe), the time and bond with their parents is most important at this age. Asher sure does love to watch other children though, even if he doesn't know what to do!
Hazel, when Asher learned to pull up, it was from a crawling position. At first he pulled up to his knees, then a couple weeks later, he stood. First he goes to his knees, then to one knee with one foot flat on the ground, then pulls/pushes up from there.
