Hazel - Glad to hear your SIL is doing better.

Julie - Maya poses no competition.  Last time we weighed her in, she was 15lb, 10oz.  She has a weight check next Friday, though, and we are hoping for at least 16lb, 8oz.

I found the link for the MOMS clubs - http://www.momsclub.org/links.html

Tarri - Maya has an exercise from the PT for that as she too tends to balance all her weight on her legs when on all fours.  Get her on all fours, and with your fingers wrapped around the front of her thighs and your thumbs on the back of her thighs just below her bum, gently rock her weight forward onto her arms.

Quick question. I am off to buy more diapers tonight and I'm just wondering what size everyone is in? We are in size 3, but have been there since 6 months old. Just wonerding if anyone has branched into size 4. I don't want to buy stock in size 3 if she will soon be outgrowing. Remember - Leah is quite big! Hazel? JulieB?

Hi everyone!  I can't keep up with the posts since my last visit, so I'm just going to jump in again.

We went on our first trip last weekend for my SIL's shower.  I was hosting it, in her home, since we don't live there.  Anyway, Ethan surprised me and did pretty well, considering.  He took short naps in his carseat on the way there (about a 3 to 3.5 hour drive), maybe 1 hour in total.  But he kind of played with his toys and looked out the window the rest of the time.  No big complaints from the car seat!      And although he didn't nap well at my SIL's house (typical 30 minutes), he wasn't terribly cranky.  I suppose with all the different people and different toys!  Plus his 2 year old cousin kept him going - he liked to follow her around (crawling of course).

We got him to bed too late both nights, but he fell asleep and slept all night long both nights!  I was so paranoid that he would wake up a bunch because he was in a different place, sleeping in his pack n play, etc.  We brought his humidifier and had it on high, so that it would block out any hotel noise (people going up the hallways, etc.).  And the Sat. morning we were there - while I was doing the baby shower thing, dh stayed with Ethan at the hotel for his am nap, and he slept 1.5 hours!  So he had a pretty good day the rest of that day (although he still only took a 30 min. afternoon nap at SIL's, but that's typical anyway).

Anyway, so it was a very busy weekend, and it's like you're moving your entire house with all their stuff, but it was fun, and Ethan did great!

Other than that, things are pretty much the same for us.  Ethan's woken up once a night for the past few nights, I believe it's his top teeth bothering him.  I've seen specks, but nothing coming through yet.

Oh, and I steamed some sliced carrots and lima beans yesterday for Ethan, and he ate them!  Yeah!  I also cooked up some spiral pasta for him the other day, but he only eats a few pieces and that's it.  He doesn't seem all that jazzed about the pasta!  I also brought cauliflower and broccoli to steam for him to try.  I need to try green beans and peas as well, but forgot to get them.  Any other finger food suggestions?  He's getting very mad at me with the spoon sometimes!  Oh, and we also give him anything from our plates that we can.  And he LOVES chicken!  And since I'm not making chicken for him everyday, I bought the pieces of grilled chicken in the deli section, you know, like the pre-packaged lunchmeats?  He definitely likes it!  I haven't try ham yet though.  He loved the turkey from Thanksgiving.

Christine - Ethan is in a size 4, just this past time that I bought diapers.  His size 3's were barely containing the entire night's sleep, so I switched him to 4's just for overnights.  Then we ran out of 3's, and I just moved him to the 4's.  They are too big right now, but not majorly.  I remember when I moved from 2's to 3's, it was the same.  I just really didn't want to buy more 3's and then not use them because they were too small.  Ethan was 22.5 lbs at his 9 month check, I can't remember what you said Leah was...

Hazel - congrats on being an auntie, and good news about your SIL!

Tarri - Ethan doesn't like me holding his hands to walk at all!  He crawls EVERYWHERE, and pulls up on EVERYTHING, and cruises around the furniture.  He pulls up on me too, but doesn't like me holding his hands to walk.  I suppose he wants to be on the move himself, although he's no where near walking by himself yet - way too unsteady!

Oh - and question about dropping to 3 bottles.  I may do that around 10 months for Ethan.  So, my question is, during the afternoon snack (instead of bottle), what do you give them in their sippy?  Water, juice?  Ethan takes water from his Nuby sippy cup (the kind with a soft spout like a bottle), but not a ton.  Just sips during his meals.  And what kind of snack do you give them?  Just trying to think ahead a bit.

Christine - We use Pampers and Daniel is actually in size 4+.  We changed to those quite a while ago actually.  I'm guessing the sizing is the same worldwide?  Size 4+ are for 22-40lb I think, but we've always found that the bigger the better (within reason obviously!).  We actually tried him in a no 5 a couple of days ago as he was starting to leak a lot at night and we wondered if the next size up would be ok.  But they were too big

Julie - Daniel is no competition for Matthew!  I thought Daniel was a big baby but Matthew beats us all :D   Last week at 10 months Daniel weighed 25lb 10oz.  I'm interetsed to see what his weight will be next month as he's now crawling.  Up til now he's basically always put on about a pound each month.  He is getting so much more exercise now though I'm sure it will make a difference.

Tarri - this is so funny coz Daniel is the opposite to Emily.  He pushes up so well on his arms but not his legs and she pushes up on legs and not arms!  I guess that's why the army crawl suits him.  At the moment he basically just drags his legs around using his arms. It is so funny to watch.  In terms of advice for getting Emily on to all fours I am no help at all. I spent hours trying to encourage Daniel to do this  , but he decided to ditch all that and just go about getting about his own way using his strong arms.

Deborah, thanks for the arm exercise tip.  I'm going to try that out...

Tammy, we're in size 3's, emily weighs 22lbs.  I think she could move bigger but you get more diapers for the same price with the smaller size.  Emily likes the plain rice cakes.  I just give her the whole thing and she nibbles off pieces also I give her a whole slice of whole wheat toast.  Keeps her nice and occupied while I make her meal :)

Christine-Kelsey is in size 4 of the Pampers Cruisers and they fit nicely.  They go up the back a bit, but that's where her poops tend to go   so the diaper contains it well.
Tammy-Kelsey finally got to 3 bottles when her pm nap moved to a later time and she started sleeping past the #3 bottle time.  It used to be at 4, but her nap is now around 3:15-4:45, so I just give her some half water/half applejuice in her sippy and maybe some veggie puffs or an arrowroot cookie, then feed her dinner between 5-5:30.  She also drinks from her sippy at dinner and during play time.  For dinner, she's now having about 6 oz of food and she takes her last bottle around 7:15.

Keeping her contained to one area has been such a battle.  She wants to go everywhere and pull up on everything, and gets mad when I put her down.  But what she wants to pull up on is dangerous, I'm not just being overprotective.  I tried to give her some space last night and let her get down on her own from something, but she fell and bumped her head.  And on hardwood floors it could be really bad if she falls.  It just seems like she gets so mad at me and pushes away from me all the time.  Is anyone else experiencing this?

Quote from: Tammy: Ethan's Mom

Anyway, so it was a very busy weekend, and it's like you're moving your entire house with all their stuff, but it was fun, and Ethan did great!

We are going away for the weekend also. My sisters and my parents are getting a hotel with a big indoor water park for the weekend. I am excited but a little worried how it will all go.  I think I just need to relax and not worry about naps and bedtime as much as usual!  :D We were going to ride with my parents (about a 3 hour trip) until we realized how much stuff we had to bring. There was no way it would all fit in my mom's vehicle and she actually drives a SUV. We have too much stuff!!!!!

Tammy - We dropped the afternoon bottle. Leah gets water in her cup and cheese and crackers for a snack.

Heather - We use pampers cruisers too. If Kelsey is in size 4, Leah definitley could be! She was 21 pounds at 9 months and I'm guessing her to be 22-23 now. Nothing like Matty though!!!!!!!!!  :D Although I was that big at 10 months!

Hazel - Glad to hear your SIL is doing better. Tell her to enjoy her little bundle, it's hard to believe that ours were ever that small.

Everyone: I had a hard time finding a sippy that Leah would actually drink out of. The nubby top ones she would just chew on and water would trinkle out. We went to a straw cup and have had awesome success with it. She drinks like a pro. We use the nubby straw cup from Walmart.

Christine - I forgot to tell you that Ethan is in Pampers Cruisers as well, size 4.  Again, a bit big, but I just put them up further on his back, which works well, as he was getting an irritation from the #3's at that spot on his back, so I've been slathering lotion on him (yeah - he just LOVES that!  :? )

Also, we drove down last weekend for our trip, and dh's mother came with us (FIL was driving down later - as he had to work that day), and I told her she could only come if it was just her body!  We had that much stuff.  It will be easier when they're not on bottles though, and when he's completely off of baby food.  I had a bag of just food and formula and bottles (not a big bag, but still).  Good luck on your trip!  I was so worried about sleep, but just went with it, and he did so well, I was so proud!  I would also try to stick to your routine as much as possible, so Leah is as happy as possible!

Thanks for the suggestions for the afternoon snacks.  I figure by about 10 months, Ethan's afternoon nap will be later in the day.  Right now it's usually about 2 pm, but he wakes up after 30 minutes usually!  I'm going to start extending that awake time again and see if that will get him to sleep longer.  It's that phase where he's cranky, acting tired, but if he goes down, it's only for 30 minutes.  So I get to play the "I'm cranky, but mommy is going to try and distract me for another 15 or 30 minutes" game.  We did that a while ago when going to 2 naps from 3.  Fun times, NOT!!!!

Hi Everyone!

I'm here in Boulder! YAY!  I've been skimming but I have so much catching up to do!

We're doing good.  I didn't want to post until we had adjusted to the time change (2 hr difference) but today we're on 7pm to 7am!! YAY!

It is a little rough here right now with no dh, he comes next week, and my parents haven't been able to come down (go figure!) and so it's been a bit hectic.  It's so hard not having my things and Eirwen's things.   Some of the things I ordered for her to make do while we wait for our stuff didn't work out, so I ended up buying duplicates of some of her things- like her PRIMO tub.  I tried for three days to get her to take a bath in the tub, even with me, and she would cry.  But now that I have her tub she is a happy bather again.  I guess I didn't realize how attached she would be to certain things.  The high chair as well.  I have the Eddie Bauer wooden one which we both love.  I had got her this cheap inflatable booster but it was awful and she would also cry when I put her in that.  I think she felt very insecure.  So I picked up the Eddie Bauer booster that is very similiar to the high chair and we LOVE that too.

Eirwen travelled ok.  I am SO GLAD WE GOT HER A SEAT! I broke down from anxiety two nights before we left and ordered her a seat and I am SO glad I did.  I would have died without...(I was also transporting my cat). She didn't sleep, so she was up from 6:00am Boston time to 6pm Boulder time so she was up with no nap 14 hrs- so I think she cried for about an hr going to bed that night.  I rocked her, nursed her but when she is that overtired she just needs to pass out really.

She LOVED the plane, and this was part of why we didn't have a nap.  If you can believe it she started hysterically laughing when the plane was taking off!! She thought it was the best thing ever!  we were all the way in the last row so right by the engines and she love it!

Boulder is great, very pretty and although colder than MA I am not feeling it at all because it is so dry here.  I can see the mountains wherever I am, I didn't realize how much I missed them! I am a bit overwhelmed and I think I am experiencing culture shock.  Everywhere I go both young and old, male and female speak to me and Eirwen.  In MA I was invisible, people hardly looked at me, let alone said anything nice to us.  Here I feel a bit vunerable if that makes sense because I am not used to all the attention...and I almost died when I went to get groceries and the checker actually opened my eggs to see if they were cracked and placed a rubberband around the carton!   Where am I!!!!???

Tarri- I have the opposite problem.  How do I get Eirwen to stand!!! Help! She won't press down at all, and my back too is killing me from trying to support her collapsing mass.  I am terrified that she won't even be standing by a year

Julie- yahoo groups is a great place to look for mommy groups in your area.  I found a bunch in Boulder there that I plan to contact once we get more settled.  They talk online but also post play group locations, times, etc.

Hazel- so glad your SIL is doing better!  That is so scary.  Also- is Daniel standing at all.  Can you get him to support his weight?

Christine- Eirwen is just over 22lbs and the size 3 Pamper's cruisers fit her really well.

For breastfeeding mom's here- how long do you intend to go?  If you are going to end at a year how are you planning to wean?  I thought Eirwen might have been going to 3 feeds around the 9 month mark, but now I think that we experienced the common lull that usually happens at that time.  She again loves her 4 feeds and will usually eat well, and is again eating from both breasts?

Oh, posted new stuff on jusspress.

Welcome back Branwen!!!! We missed you.  :D Don't feel the need to read previous posts, just jump back in. Glad to hear you like your new town and that Eirwen has adjusted well. What a sport - a plane ride, time change and new home! Makes my weekend trip seem like a breeze!  We're here for you if you need some support as you adjust. So nice to have you back!

Branwen - I was thinking about you just tonight wondering when we'd hear from you.  We all missed you.  So glad you are settling.  I had one day a while back where Daniel did the whole day without a nap thing    I don't know about you but I think I was more bothered than he was.  He just got on with it and I just panicked    It's so good to hear Eirwen is happy and she's not been thrown off routine etc...
Daniel loves to stand - he puts all his weight on his legs but just won't balance or take any steps. And I mean NO steps.  It's like his feet are stuck to the floor!

Haven't time for any more.

Branwen, so glad you both survived your trip.  Sounds like colorado is going to be perfect for you guys :D  :D  As for standing, I think Emily first got used to it when she was in the papoose on dh.  When dh would sit, her feet would just touch his legs and she started to press up and down when she got hungry.

Welcome back Branwen!

Some good news - Maya napped with her helmet on today.  I was wholly prepared for two short 45min naps, but instead she napped 1hr, 15min in the AM and 1hr, 45min in the PM.  I hope it goes as well tomorrow night when she has to sleep with it.
