monthly cycle came now gone???
« on: October 13, 2005, 14:06:46 pm »
Hi!!  I'm not sure if this is due to bf or not, but two months ago I got my period (our lo was 6 months at the time)  I assumed I got it because he was now on solids as well as the breast.  It's been two months now and I haven't had my period again.  Is this due to the bf?  Or, could I just be irregular after having a baby and such.  Any thoughts?

Have you increased his number of breastfeedings? Is he waking more at night and you nurse him then? This could affect your period. Are you sure you are not pregnant again?

Mine were also irregular for a little while but then settled down into a very predictable pattern, more regular than before dd.

Let's see what others have to say, I think Stacy may have some other ideas  :) .

Hi, don't want to scare you but is there any chance you could be pregnant?  i ask because I too thought my period had returned when my son was 8 months old - I was still breast feeding, I bled quite heavily for about 5 days, and then it never came back.   6 weeks later I discovered I was 10 weeks pregnant pregnant - the bleed must have been an exceptionally heavy implantation bleed.  Just a thought as I had no idea at all I was pregnant!  xxxxxxx

Also- are you on the mini-pill perhaps?  It has a way of messing with your cycle too.  Especially when bf.

It's not unusual to have a cycle and then have a longer amount of time before your next. Your body has to work hard against those hormones to ovulate, it's natures way of helping you not get pregnant while you still have a baby to care for. Less ovulation, less chance. My cycles were about 40 days long, but I have heard of 60+ days, or even women who have one period and then not again for some time.

Are you using some type of ABC or charting the cycle with NFP?

Thanks for the quick replies ladies!!

Annamum, you had asked if I was nursing my babe more...it's funny because I only still nurse four or five times day between 7 am and 7 pm.  He has been staying at the breast longer than normal the past few weeks...I guess that could be it!

Pregnant  I wish!!!  Even though dh would have a heart attack if it happened this soon!

I find that what Gracekelly's mom said interesting about cycles...maybe my body is getting itself back to normal.

Marlowho, no, not taking any pills.  I was going to but my midwife said that sometimes they can affect milk supply.  My doctor disagreed but I chose not to just in case.

Anyhow, I guess I'll enjoy the vacation from AF!!!

I found that if I nursed Anna more often or longer, for example when she was teething she wanted to nurse longer, my period was late. However, this only happened twice.

My cycles were really long when they first came back at 6 months, but have become shorter and more regular recently - might just be that!
