When Play With Toys?
« on: October 14, 2005, 17:55:15 pm »
Just wondering when most of your lo's started noticing and playing with toys. Don't want to rush things or overstimulate DD (two months and 3 days) but just wondering best ways/times to start and with what. Thanks!

it seemed for us that olivia really "woke up to her toys" at 4 months before that she explored them, but the added dimension of "playing" really took off at that age.

just offer rattles and stuffed toys etc and let her explore toys for what they are - colours, texture, sound, etc although she won't know how to "use" them.

Thanks Debra. BTW, we live in Manhattan...

So we should show her/offer her rattles, toys, etc even though of course she can't take them/use them?

Yes! I would offer her toys and rattles even if she can't use them yet. Let her look at them - you could put her in different positions; look at them from her tummy or from her back or from supported sitting. If any of our toys have interesting textures, especially crinkles (most baby toys do) then you could touch them to her hands also.
Good luck!
