I missed the post about children being shy around strangers...  I've got FOUR like that!!  I was very excited as the other day one of my friend's SIL's stopped in to drop something off for her, my girls had never seen her before and she asked Zoe what her name was and Zoe actually answered her   and then proceeded to tell her all her sisters names.  WOW!  That's a big step for her.  Now, had it been a guy she would have run and hid under a table somewhere (seriously!).  If we actually do get out and anyone talks to Kaia or Hannah - oh gosh look out.  Heck MIL was here last week and spoke to Hannah and the tears just started rolling.  I calmed her down, put her down again and a few minutes later MIL talked to her again - more tears!  I finally said "ok Grandma you've caused enough tears today!!"  all in a joking way of course.

These girls are SO touchy that they were beside themselves outside today.  We were only out about 10min max (long enough to get the mail) - not sure what upset them so much -either the fact it was raining (although they weren't getting wet) OR the fact I just put those cuddle bags in their carseats which would have been new to them?    In fact I think it was Nancy who said something about IL's child not being on a routine and being really fussy at family gatherings.  That is SO my girls!!  And they ARE on a routine.  Basically if we go to a family event I just have to nurse them when we get there regardless of when their next feed is - it's the ONLY way to calm them down. (and get other people to back off at the same time)

As for crawling - nope, not here.  The girls scootch up to a "V" shape and then stretch back out and do make some ground this way but no huge attempt at actual crawling.  Not sure they get much chance as usually when they are on the floor Zoe and Sarah are immediately there lying beside them both so there's no room to do anything.  OR they swoop down and start forcing them to roll over this way and that way    So they spend more time in the exersaucers where they're safe.  Kaia LOVES to jump in the saucer though!  Man that girl could get big air in the jolly jumper - just not sure how safe an idea that is with two big sisters around to push it around like it's a bunjee cord. (wow - see how quickly we forget - I'm just realizing that it wasn't all that long ago I couldn't even put these girls down at all as all they wanted was to be carried!  I'm SO thankful for those saucers!!)

They aren't sitting on their own yet either but they are getting a bit more balance slowly.  They're definitely behind what Zoe and Sarah were doing at this age.  Sarah crawled long by now and Zoe just after six months.

Well I think I'm going to scoot off to bed soon.

Traci when you scroll to the very bottom of the posts, just after the last one, at the bottom right of the screen you should see page numbers...the page you are on is likely black and if there is more pages in blue to the right of that (also look for the option of 'next') then there's more pages.

Nikki  wow - no cheerios there?  Too bad.  Not like pretzels I wouldn't say.  Hmmmmm - one of the baby food companies makes a 'nutrios' toddler cereal that's basically the same thing.  There is sugar in it but you can't taste the sugar (less than 1g per serving the box says)

ok, deep breath, where are we at?

Nikki - no crawling or moving in this household. Daniel is just starting to lift his butt off the floor to reach for things though. Ofcourse, this sometimes now ends in tears as he face plants. Especially if he's on the kitchen floor and not only does he face plant (ouch) but the cat that he was trying to reach runs away!  How dare the cat move!  :D

Judy - how funny about what you said to your MIL. Lucky she knew how to take it.

Oh no, I've just got Daniel out of bed, put him in the JJ and he's crying! It must be teeth, surely! I guess I better cut this short and go see my boy.

OK ladies, watch out...this is going to be long!!!  You have all been soooo busy.  I took notes.  DH stayed home from work today, which was nice in a way but I definately don't get as much me time when he is home.  Makes me wonder how I am going to get any me time when I am back to work...
Speaking of back to work...

Karen  Big Hugs for going back to work Monday...full time?  You'll do great.  I can't wait to hear how it goes.  I start back in Dec.

Kate...hysterical halloween pics! Although, I actually feel a little sick to my stomach now that I ahve a child when I see other children crying... anyone have that?  I can't believe the stair story and yes you have now definately met your accident quota for quite some time I would guess.

Erin- welcome back adorable pics of Katie...I had to laugh when I read about eating ice cream every night as I was reading while eating ice cream..a bad habit from pregnancy that just doesn't want to go away!

Holly- welcome! Keep coming back ! (sounds like an AA meeting
:D ) This is the best place to be!  I think it is so funny that you and Traci met.

Micky-love you little Jack-o lantern. So cute...btw did I ever mention that I wanted to name SOphie Jack if she was a boy..but there was one little problem, our last name is Hoff.  Say a few times to yourself and you will understand why we couldn't do that!

Traci- Congrats for the shopping trip.  I did that a few weeks back. So much fun!  My sister visited and helped me clean the bad ju-ju's out of my closet so that I could make room for new things.  It was sort of fun to virtual shop with you :) On the ceral thing.  I can't remeber who said it but when Sophie started eating a lot more I just started adding fruits and veg. also...I think cereal can be a little constipating?  So I didn't want to feed too much. Congrats on COle seelping through.  That is too weird because Sophie had one of her best night's sleep after being lugged around with dh while I went on that shopping trip..hmmm

Andrea. Love the pictures.  T looks so much like your dh.  Sophie looks like mine too.  That was a funny story about dh and forgetting the bottle.  I mean really

Hayley- Sophie has had a few days here and there of being down on solids.  I figure it must be discomfort....teething or whatever.  I guess as long is it's not affecting his sleep, I wouldn't worry too much. (although I have worried quite a bit) they must be getting what they need, and anyway you really can't force them to eat so, what to do?

Bec--Sophie totally does the puppy head-cock thing!! It cracks me up.  She has also started bobbling her head for dh when he goes "Coo-coo"  great huh?

Ankie- Sophie is moving backwards and fast!  She does seem a little annoyed that she cna't go forward yet.

Richelle, happy 6 mo. to Sophie and congrats for being through the storm and back on line!

Naomi- sorry I missed the chat. I went to the chat room and saw the goodbyes of your chat...but thought you were still there, duh! So I was all happily typing my hello when I realized that you had all left, sigh...oh well, I'll catch up with you next time...btw, it WOULD be a little easier if you lived out west...get on it hunny  :)  Congrats about the interview!!! Sounds like it went well.

I missed you all today.  It feels good to catch up.  I absolutely love the pics...it makes my imaginary friends seem a little more real.  And the babes are just too cute. Maybe I'll post one of Sophie tomorrow.
We have had a few more crazy days.  I'll tell more about them later.  Always a little off when dh is home.  I think she had a little cold too, but seems better today.  Bumbped her head on the table leg while plaing with dh.  She cried really hard!...poor kid.  No blood though, thank goodness.  I did however try to tear her away from dh afterwards to comfort her...he held his ground thank goodness...it doesn't always have to be me :)
BTW, carck up about the hubbies and housework stuff, Ankie adn Naomi and anyone else I don't remember.  We have had the same talks around her...
Take care my dears.

hi all!!

Today I ventured out twice!!    We went to the mall and to Gap Kids/Baby was trying to find some cute stuff for my sis and her LO (due in Feb) but while we were there a mom was making her little boy try on shoes.  He was NOT happy!  Big tears, screaming, etc....he was probably only 2 or 3.  I felt so sad for him because he just wasn't in the mood today to do it and mom seemed oblivious to him being hysterical.  Poor Jack threw in a few sympathy tears for him but we left shortly after that because it was torture for both Jack and me to listen to that little boy cry SOOOO hard!  :(    So yes Hannah it makes me ill to hear another kid/baby cry so hard and not be heard!  I think before kids I was probably oblivious to that sort of thing or may have even commented in my head "whoa, get control of that kid!" or some other un-sympathetic statement!!  :?

OK, ladies...I'm not sure what happened to my Avatar. I tried to change it and ended up deleting it completely! I'll have to figure it out later.

Wow...1 day and 6 pages later. I tried to catch up, but ended up skimming a lot. Anyway...here goes:

Welcome Holly! I echo everything that has been said about schedule and which books to read.

Traci--good for you on the new clothes! I'm hoping to do the same, but keep hoping to lose a few more pounds. It's not coming off as quickly as I'd hoped...anyone else having that problem?

Andrea--beautiful family picture

Micky--yes, I'm the editor, and I tolerate your typing.  J/K

Kate--how scary about the fall. Good for you for remaining calm

Everyone else--great pics! I need to get DH to help me post some. You'd think being married to a computer guy, some of that technology-savvy would wear off!

Well, off to bed...talk to you all tomorrow!

Hey Ladies,

Today I had a minor surgery performed on 4 of my toes for ingrown toenails (gross, I  know  ), so am not up to snuff.  Should be better in a few days though.  Gotta get them elevated soon though so they don't get swolen, so can't write long.

Kate-OMG, what a hero your DH is!!!  And way to go on keeping your cool.  Just goes to show the spirit/intuition of a woman and mama    So glad to hear Ryan is AOK!

Judy-give yourself a break...you are a saint!  It is perfectly normal to lose your cool now and then, in fact if you didn't I'd think you were a robot!    BTW, my parents were over tonight and I was showing them the site and all my "imaginary friends" and I pointed you and your lovely family out to them!
Karen-good luck on going back next week.  We are here for you for support!

Hayley-yeah for Daniel sleeping through!  I would suggest to just keep pluggig away at teh later wake up time...but it may just end up being his body clock.

Traci-you told Holly something I found interesting...you said 2 hour naps are typical more for 4-5 month olds.   :?:   Where did you hear that?  I ask because Taylor has only had a few 2 hour naps in the last month or so, so it would be refreshing to know that it is normal, and not a glitch in the routine.  Please let me know your thoughts...

Micky-yeah for getting out!

Hannah-glad Sophie wasn't too worse for the ware after her fight with the coffee table!

Nicki-way to go on losing the weight!  I was doing well, jogging again for about a month but then lost motivation!   Gotta get it back after the toes heal.

Taylor scooched across the floor a little today!  Not quite a crawl, but defintiely the first attempts at one.

Gotta go put my feet up.  Have a great night ladies!

Hi Everyone,

I did it again   - I typed out a really long post and then I pressed my backspace key and lost it

I basically said everything that Hannah said to everyone  (I think) Especially the part about all the cute pics - I love the pics  :D  :D Hannah that "coo coo   thing is a crack up.

Kate - scary about the fall. It's great that you stayed calm because I think you end up scaring them more if you make a big deal of things (does that even make sense)

Carrots - I have been giving Halle carrots for a few days now with no problems. I cook them myself and in fact I got the 'recipe' from a baby care book. They were in the "first foods" section along with Rice, pumpkin, apple, pear etc....Also I cooked up a peach for her yesterday and she woofed it down 8) Still can't get her to drink any water so I mixed up the rice cereal with prune juice - It looked and smelled disgusting but she ate it :?

Crawling - not crawling yet, not even looking like it.

Sleeping - The last 6 (yes 6) nights Halle has slept straight through - I'm talking  6.30/7.00 to 5.30/6.00    I still can't believe it myself. She has only ever 'slept through' a handfull of times. I would hate to think what  I would be doing without this BW stuff  :D Naps are still another story but hey I can't have everything  I am feeling confident enough to go camping this weekend YAY!!! It finally feels as if I am getting the hang of being a mum :)

Better go as she has just woken up from one of her non-naps

Take care everyone

Bec

Andrea, wow, youch, take care of your feet. Make sure you keep them up and let Taylor run around after you.    okay, so maybe she's a little young, but in a few years time maybe......

Bec, yay for Halle sleeping thru. Isn't it a great feeling. Are you still doing what I'm doing, and waking when you expect Halle to wake and you find she doesn't. Are you starting your day if she wakes at 5.30am or putting her back to bed?

Micky, isn't it sweet how when our bubs hear another one crying they start. It's like they know what's going on and they're sad too  At least you made Jack happy again.

Hannah and others who have commented about the eating (or lack of) - thank you for your reassurance. My best friend said the same thing, not to worry, but it's great having a few others say the same. I gave Daniel some pain meds today and he suddenly gobbled up some food. It's like he knew the medicine would make him feel better and so took some pumpkin and carrot. Then again at dinner time too. So I'm a little relieved. I bought some natural teething powder too and managed to get that in (not as easy as bonjela to administer though) and I think he seemed a little happier too. Hopefully this means he may keep eating and even get a tooth thru soon.

Anyway, need to send some photos off to the family about what Daniel's been up to, I may even get one up here!

Okay, so here's a photo of Daniel in the weekend. It was sooo lovely I wanted to be outside gardening so we brought him out too. Mostly he was under the sun umbrella, just a few moments where he was in the sun and I was a bad mummy!

I think we'll have to buy one of those paddling pools with a roof over for summer.

Oh, and while I'm here, I found a great way of feeding Daniel and keeping him in one place while he doesn't like the high chair!  Okay, so he doesn't look too happy, but you know the problems I've been having..... he did eat all his lunch that day would you believe.

LOL Hayley!  We got one of those shaded paddling pools from the Warehouse a few weeks ago, we missed out last summer on ANY pools from everywhere, they had all sold out by the time January came around and we really needed it.  I have to remember to keep hats handy for my kids too.

Bec, yay for the overnight sleeps!  :D

Andrea, oh, poor toes, hope you have a speedy recovery.

Well I coped without DH here to help out with the bedtime madness, I managed to get Nathan in bed by 6.20pm since he missed his nap today and had no mucking around, he must have been tired.  Danielle was starting to lose the plot, but fortunately a feed calmed her down and she was in bed too by 6.45.  I think we're making some headway with Nathan's night wakings - I've been telling him to cuddle his dog and blankie if he wakes up and so far 3 nights in a row he's woken, called out once and gone back to sleep - hmm, maybe we're onto something there.

Bianca, Nathan likely has Celiac disease (to be confirmed tomorrow at the docs), it's a gluten intolerance/allergy - so found in wheat, oats etc - bread, pasta.  But I think he'll need a biopsy to properly confirm it, not too sure yet, so will know more tomorrow.

Right, off to watch the end of Without a Trace and off to bed.

Traci - sorry I didn't realize you meant 'while posting'.  Nope I don't see anything of the thread while I'm typing my post - just after I've posted is all.

Haley that's hillarious!!  I love the pic.

Andrea hope your toes feel better soon!  Sounds painful.

Sorry I gotta cut this short - Zoe and Sarah are finishing up Dora right now and in about 1 minute some show called Charlie and Lola is going to start and I HATE that show. (never seen it actually but I hate the look of the scruffy characters) so I've got to swoop in and shut down the tv.

Hello Ladies,

Sophie had another 'nutty' night.  I do not know how she sleeps through all of her 'carousing' in her crib?  I kept checking on her, at one point she had the crib bumper pulled off and stuck under her butt and one of her hands poking through the crib rail?  DH says he doesn't know how I sleep through all of my thrashing/talking   inmy sleep.  I was also talking to my mom and she said I was the same as a baby/kid I guess I used to fall out of bed all the time  Jeez mom, ever heard of bed rails??

Nikki - I meant to post about Celiac as our uncle has it and I was sort of amazed at all the gluten free products available.  They came to visit after Sophie was born and I thought it would be harder than it was to cook for him.  Not that it is easy but he also said there is alot more awareness about it now.  He was diagnosed with it at age 53  poor guy never knew what was wrong with him and he wasa always skin and bones, he has now put on 40 pounds and has never been happier.  Good thing they are catching it now for Nathan.

Karen - Good luck going back to work!  I went back 2 months ago and have now resigned  so if you need to chat or some advice I am here.  BTW what are you doing for childcare?  We have the best nanny I am so sad to lose her.... :(

Judy - We went the other night to a Philipino Pig roast in the 'inner' part of the island(the not so nice area) for our nanny's b'day, it was very interesting to say the least.  They had all sorts of crazy outdoor disco lights and loud music, well they love babies - and Sophie was passed around and bounced around for a good hour.  She started out doing the 'cowardly lion' (that's what we call her lower lip quiver) but I left it alone and she soon was having a blast laughing and screaming  I have never seen her so hyper.  Point being that she usually takes some time to get used to neww people but I leave her to it, bad mommy!!
Probably more reason why she reaches for the nanny when i am holding her

I forgot who was asking about weight but I am struggling - I have never had trouble dropping weight but I am now.  I quit smoking when I got Prego and I started eating carbs (2 things i am not going to change back!!) I think 2 of the main things that led to my pregnancy weight gain.  It has finally started to cool down here so I have no excuse to not get out and get some exercise!!

Wow, long post!  I'll stop here for now...

Hayley!  that is absolutely priceless in the box!  Glad he's eating again.  Can I just mention something about the exersaucer.  Mine has a warning not to let them stand flat footed.  Not sure why...maybe because they could launch themselves out?  I see Daniel has a foot flat, but maybe it has to be both feet.  Anyone else know why this warning is there?

Andrea-as for the two hour naps.  Maybe I shouldn't have made a blanket statement like that, but I was just concluding that since 6 month olds should have 2.25 hours total day sleep (approx) over two naps then it is unlikely they would sleep for 2 hours IYKWIM?  Obviously it might happen on occasion when they had poor night sleep or skipped a nap or whatever.  so, it was just me blowing hot air I guess :?
As for your toes, YIKES, get those feet up and rest.  OUCHY. Funny, now I no longer picture you as a glamourous buyer for a fancy store but just a regular mommy with icky toes LOL :P

Bec-that's awesome on the night sleep!

We had carrots today.  Just a tablespoon.  How much are you supposed to give when you introduce a new food?  I just played it safe.  I got the jarred ones as I wasn't sure since there is debate over the whole carrot issue.  He woke at 5 today :(  we had one full night!  5 is better than 1:30 though.  I fed one boob, put him back down and he was up for the day at 5:45.  I'll have to see what happens tomorrow...hope it doesn't become a habit.
Now that I think of it, the night he slept through I fed him when he got up from catnap at 4:45 (because he ate very little at 2pm), then did cereal at 5:30, then more milk at 6:00 or so.  I wonder if I kind of tanked him up???  Maybe I'll try it again today and see what happens.

off to have my coffee.  nearing the 45 min. mark and hoping he sleeps an hour or so.
