Hi Holly-what a relief to see you.  I was getting worried to be honest.  Stick with it...sounds like you're making progress.  Did I see a two hour morning nap there from 7:30-9:30?  If so that's great.

Don't beat yourself up about the 7:30 wakeup, especially when he's having rough nights.  I know Tracy says to be rigid about the schedule the first few days but you need your rest too in order to follow through kwim?

remember that pat/shush might aggravate him.  i have been snooping on your other posts and i think someone gave you some good advice about just laying your hand on him and talking or something?  pat/shush might work...just be aware it may keep him awake.  he can understand your tone and words now so maybe just repeat "it's okay, it's okay, time for sleep, it's okay" or something like that in low tone.

also, is your windown consisent?  be sure to do the same thing every time.  He will eventually catch on that it's time for sleep.  I walk in the dark room now and Cole is ready for the crib.

Stick with it, you're doing great!

Hi Traci, yes that was a two hour nap yesterday....Yeah!!!!! Best one yet. :D
Yes I was thinking about the pat/shush bothering him more as well, but concerned with the p/u pd as well making him throw up more etc.  I think I may try the one suggestion  about laying my hand on him and speaking to him in a low voice etc...our winddown is the same....he has his bottle or bf, then we go to his room, sit in the glider for a bit, I sing 3 versus of mocking bird, turn on the white noise cd and then put him in his bed...sleepy....but our problem arises the minute he's put down. He'd sleep in my arms, with me, but doesn't like to be on his own in his crib.

Had Brady to see a Chriopractor this morning. Some one told me it would help with his reflux, and well, I'll try anything as long as its not hurting him....they didn't "crack" anything...just massaged a bit etc.  Maybe with that and his meds we can get the reflux under control and then stick with our routine, and we'll be on our way......here's hoping...

Traci, I love what you said back in your other post about hard jobs being moms etc...sure is, and I agree with you 100%, and boy is it worth it though.  I treasure every moment no matter what our day or night is. :)

You deserve some rest now, taking on everything yourself.  you need some well deserved R&R....

I do hope you will be able to make it to your Halloween party, I know you think you may not....but here's hoping....

We have a Halloween party this weekend as well, but won't be making it, not while trying to establish this routine with Brady. There's always next year....

hey Holly- I mentioned the chiropractor at the mall :D   I remember you saying someone else had told you about it too.  Hope it helps.

okay girls, we are on day 5 of carrots.  He seems to be spilling (love that term) a lot more the last couple of days.  Not sure whether it's the carrots or just a touch of reflux.  Ped.  said it can come and go.  I was going to start potatoes or sweet potatoe tomorrow but I wonder if I should stick with carrots for a bit and see whether it might be related?  Any of you find this happens?  I would think it would have happened on the first or second day if it was an issue but maybe that's why they say to give it 5 days.  Called DH at work and he said he fed him 2 Tbsp...so no more than the last couple of days.
He also doesn't seem to want to eat too much at the 10 and 2 BFs.  Unless he's just so occupied with playing and manages to gulp it down faster?  maybe that's what's causing the spilling?

oh, I don't know, now i'm rambling.

as for resting...I have spa day tomorrow!  lunch and 1.5 hour massage with my girlfriends.  MIL coming to help DH.  I'm not worried about his 2 pm feed, if he doesn't take the bottle they can make him some milky cereal.  He didn't feed on sunday when i went shopping and slept through the night!  maybe that's the secret

oh, and i forgot to report we had our first solid-like poos yesterday!  hee hee, the things we get excited about.

Hi Traci - I wish I had some advice for you about the carrots, but Brady spits up everything...so I'm not sure....we find it hard to know if there is anything else going on due to his reflux and constant spitting up.  Sorry I'm not more help.  Great you are having a spa day tomorrow...good for you..... :D

Well Brady is back up again...only 35 minute nap now...what am I going to do with my baby boy   :?   I tried laying my hand on his back, comforting him....soothing him....he's hysterical....then tried p/u pd, and he fights me, and in the book it says, dont fight a fighting baby, put them back down, so I did and tried the pat/shush, laying my hand on his back, and telling him its okay etc....nothing!!!!! :?

Holly-remember, only try to put him back down for 40 minutes or until his next feed.  Take him out for 10 minutes and do quiet play on the floor or something, then try again.  You're trying to teach him that he sleeps at this time.  It will take a while for his body clock to change and understand what it's supposed to be doing (sleeping)

feel free to PM, email, or call me if you have questions.

btw...i'm heading to Pickering town later if you wanted to meet up.  I know you may want to stay home but you might also want to get out and maybe have Brady catnap in the stroller.  let me know.

i forgot to tell you ladies of more developments.  Cole has climbed the entire staircase twice today.  6 steps then a landing, 3 spiral steps then 6 more steps!  Also, he discovered his shadow while on the landing this morning, and LINT on the stair just now.  GREAT-now I really gotta get vacuuming.  The one thing i was happy about was that he wasn't picking up dirt off the floor :?

nikki, naomi, judy...how do you teach them to get down from standing?  he was standing in his crib this morning at 5:15.  both doors were closed so i'm afraid he was stuck for maybe 15 min b/c i didn't hear him?   i just take his hands off what he's holding on to, make his bum stick out, say down then make him sit.  any advice?

also, he has started pinching my arms and boobs while feeding...HARD.  anybody else experiening this?

thanks

Height:  I'm 5' 8.5"and dh is 5' 8" (he used to quite sensitive about it) or I was - after a day of carrying these two I've been known to be an inch + shorter!!

I've read if you double a child's height at 18months that's how tall they're supposed to be as adult.

Nikki -thanks for the tip on Aconite - never considered it for teething before but makes good sense.

Morning ladies.  I have soo much to say, for a change!

Congrats to Naomi!! You must be so excited.  Can't wait to talk more about what it's like to be a working mom.  I'll be going back shortly after you start.

Judy---glad to hear I'm not the only one with a shorty for a dh  :D

Happy to hear that I am not the only one choking my child

I cannot believe COle is doing stairs already!!!  Sophie has discovered shadows as well and is very entertained by her own and ours.

Holly- good work with Brady.  A two hour nap wow!  Keep it up.

OK, so, I have a few rants.  Aw shoot, little tiny girlfriend is awake...she's been a bit of a squealer lately...we think she sounds like a cat in heat!!

I guess my rants will have to wait until later.   I am going to shove her in the stroller and take her little booty out for a run!

I have just had my WORST night EVER! Arwyn has NEVER done this before, including when she was a newborn! She was up almost every hour from the time I put her down (6 pm) until 6 am at which time I gave up putting her back to sleep.

Okay... because she has been dropping the catnap, she usually falls asleep on the breast and has been for the past 12 days or so. I don't like this but until I/she adjusts her nap times properly, she just can't stay awake. Anyhow, she goes down at 6 pm and wakes up SCREAMING at 7:35. I give DH 15 minutes to put her back down but it doesn't ease up at all so... I go in at 7:50 and sit in the rocking chair with her. She doesn't really stop crying so I offer a breast... she falls asleep... I put her in the crib... she starts SCREAMING again and getting up on all fours. I keep putting her down for about 5 minutes... not working... so... I do pu/pd... not working... I then hold her to calm her down... she starts getting sleepy and I put her down again in her crib... starts SCREAMING again! I hold her again... try the crib again... doesn't work... offer the second boob, falls asleep and I hold her for another while... I put her down and she starts crying but I am able to pat her back down.

REPEAT ALL NIGHT LONG EVERY 45 MINUTES or if I am lucky, 1 HOUR. After about the 2nd waking, I put her on the futon in her room and slept with her the rest of the night. Even though I still had to pick her up and stand up to calm her down, at least I didn't have to go to her room. I can't believe it... I haven't slept with her through a night since she was 10 weeks old and we moved her to her own crib.

I had to nurse her to sleep for her first nap this morning and she started crying when I took her off after 20 minutes so... more accidental on purpose parenting... I let her stay latched on for her whole nap! At least it was 1 hr 30 min so I got a little bit of sleep too... although I am a bit of a pretzel sleeping with her! She is currently being a real cranky one so I have to go but I really needed this vent. I am exhausted and really frustrated that my very good sleeper has disappeared. I used to have a wonderful self-soothing sleeper who woke only once in the night to feed at 4 am... I want her back!

BTW, I think it is teeth as she just cut her first tooth yesterday. In the morning it was still gums and by the evening, it was through. I hope that is it because I can't take another night like last night.

Oh Ankie, hugs to you.  I am sure it is teeth and your good sleeper will be back soon.

Do what you have to do to make it through, this won't last forever.

Hugs Ankie! Hang in there!
Hayley, got some teething powder yesterday at the Parent and Child Show but have not had to use it yet. I will have to stick to combos as have no idea what individual remedy to use!
On the choking front, found a "safe feeder" at the show yesterday and gave Sam a prune without worrying about him choking. Here is the website if anyone is interested..

Alternatively, you could wrap stuff in muslin..a girlfriend of mine does that but then, the babies would not actually have anything to swallow KWIM?
Oh, saw your cousin's boy on TV last night. Too cute! Made us laugh and very talented!!!
I am 5' 5.5 and dh is 5'7 so not much between us. Sam however is 71 cm and is over the 97th centile in length.
Have a good day all and enjoy the chat Sun/Mon

(((HUGS))) to you, Ankie!    It just has to be those teeth...I'm sure she'll be back to normal in no time!

(((HUGS))) to you, Naomi!  Congrats on the job!  We knew you'd get it!   :D

Well, my sil babysat for Ryan today and he got 30 MINUTES of sleep from 7:20 am-2 pm!  WTF?  I left a detailed set of instructions.  He "didn't want to sleep", so he didn't go down until 11 (instead of 9:15 or 9:30 as I told her), which is when he should have had his bottle...so of course he's starving and won't sleep long.  For some reason, she didn't give his bottle 'til 12:30!  Poor baby.  (Probably b/c I told her he usually sleeps for 90 minutes?) Then, I got home at 1:40 or so and she hadn't given him lunch.  I clearly stated solids about 30-45 minutes after the bottle.  Ugggh!   :x   Well, it WAS nice of her to sit with him and a bit of a wake-up call about babies for her, I think.  He went right down after eating and hasn't made a peep since!  Okay, thanks for the vent...don't want to tell anyone but dh or I'll seem like an ingrate.

Have a great weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kate,

Congrats Naomi!!!!!

Ankie - my first thought was definitely teeth.  Zoe always had a couple horrendous nights with every single tooth.
