Hi - Hannah, I think inviting SIL over for lunch is a great idea. Take small steps before you take the big ones.

Naomi - Doodie is soooo cute. At least when he's older he can just be "dood/dude"

As for Daniel, well, one nick name is fairly obvious.... Little Bear, he also gets Mr Sausage!!!! I know, terrible! We've got 2 cats and one of them the boy cat is a bit dumb sometimes so we started nicknaming him a 'silly sausage' then Mr Sausage, then for some reason it kind of gets used for Daniel too, not that he's a silly sausage... yet! Otherwise no other nick names. Mmm how boring, oh well, I"m sure they will happen.

How do I figure out what time the chat is on for NZ? Is there somewhere on the site that has all the different times? Sorry, a bit dumb (like my cat) when it comes to these things.

See ya lata aligata's! :D

hayley-this might help you.  I think we're going with NY time...it's 8:30pm on the 28th here right now, and 1:30pm on the 29th for you.  So chat on sunday 9pm for us would start at 2pm monday for you.  Do I have that right girls?

Hi everyone---

Nikki - Is one red cheek a sign of teething?  I've never heard that and Katie has had one red cheek recently and she is teething so it would make lots of sense.  Learn something new every day....

Ankie - We had ourselves a night like that Wednesday night, last night was better - Katie is teething right now too and is very, very snotty as well.  She keeps waking up b/c she can't breathe - oh, and Wednesday night I think she was cold too, since it was our first cold night.  I now dress her in a long sleeve onesie, two pairs of pajamas, and her sleep sack.  Boy do I wish I could just throw a quilt on top of her and be done with it.   Hope your night is better.  And yes, we've been doing some serious accidental on purpose parenting these days too - this morning I had to go to a conference, so I plopped her in bed with DH and they slept until 9:45 - guess she needed the sleep.

Naomi - Congrats again, and love the pic

Whoever was asking, I'm 5'3.5" (yes, that half an inch counts big for me too  :D ) and DH is 6'4" - Katie has been pretty long so far in all her checkups so I think as of now she's taking after that side of the family - whoever said they expect their LO to be taller than them by kindergarted I'm with you.

Traci - When Katie was tiny and used to cry all the time, we called her Frauline Stinkypants von Noisenheimer.  When I was pregnant, we called her Nubbsy Russell (why, I will never know).  Her middle name is Rose, so generally we call her about a million things followed by Rose, depending on what's going on - Hungy Rose, Sleepy Rose, Tiny Rose (when we look back at her baby pics), Snotty Rose these days with her cold....

Hannah - I definitely don't think you're out of line.  Sophie's your baby, you do whatever you think is best.  I do think lunch with SIL is a good first step though.

Whoever was asking about teething meds, I just use regular old Tylenol - last night I used Motrin as things were really bothering her.  She's right at the high end for weight for the smaller doseage, but I don't want to move her up yet.  She loves to chew on a frozen washcloth too - makes her very happy.

Anyway, must run, tomorrow is my birthday and DH is attempting to wrap some presents right now  :D

Have a good day/night all!

Traci, yep that time conversion is right, 2pm for us here in NZ for the chat on Monday (for us).

Erin, yes a red cheek is often associated with teething.  I don't give a remedy just based on that though, D's had a red cheek often but isn't bothered by her teething so far (still no teeth), so I haven't given anything for it.  But if she was fussing without any other reason and had the red cheek I would.

Well I'm super boring then when it come to nick-names.  The only thing I've called Danielle is Missy Pants.

did i forget to mention they are resurfacing the parking lot of the commuter train next to our house      they have been given an exemption on the noise by-law and will be working non-stop from now until monday morning.  NICE.  right now it sounds like loud white noise so hopefully it won't disturb Cole too much. I just hope I can hear him cry over the din of the machinery. It's a good thing Cole is in the front of the house (lot is in the back)

Richelle - Thanks for your help, I agree, we need to stick with a soothing routine, its just finding one that seems to work.....btw, what does kwim mean?  Sorry bit slow on that one...lol---sleep deprived.....

Traci - that is so weird...lol....we call Brady bugaboo....I just find it funny with some of our similarities.

Erin - I was asking about the teething meds recently, my last post I think.
Thanks for letting me know what you use. We've been using the frozen face clothes right now as well. He loves them, but it doesn't seem to take the pain away.

Have a  good nite everyone!

we call Jackson-Jack, Budda, CrabbyJack and Peanut.  Not as original as Erin with Frauline Stinkypants von Noisenheimer!!  :D

I had a good day out today.  MIL came over to entertain Jackson while I went out xmas shopping.  It was fun to get out of the house without Jack just for a few hours...but what was great was when I got home Jack only ate his veggies for lunch and wouldn't take the bottle from MIL.  (He usually has veggies, meat, fruit and a bottle).  As soon as I sat down with him he was grabbing for the bottle  :D  and all smiles when he saw me  :D  Those smiles are worth a million bucks!! :D  :D   I got him a snow suit for the winter.  I'll have to take a pic of him and post it once he tries it on.

Hi gals...

Arwyn is asleep. WHEW! DH put her to sleep after I nursed her and was still awake. I let her clamp on the boobie to sleep for her catnap... well, to force her to have a catnap so that she wouldn't nurse to sleep. In my silly line of reasoning, I figured it was better that way than to nurse to sleep??? What in the heck was I thinking? Hindsight is 20/20, I tell ya! Not at my best when trying to figure out which accidental "on purpose" parenting skill to use!

Nicknames... well, most are in Cantonese. In Cantonese, we used to call her "little turtle" -- woo gwai jai because of that very cute newborn neck crane she used to do; "daughter daughter" -- leui leui is the other one and we consistently use that. In Cantonese, it is very popular to use nicknames so... she has a shortened version of her Cantonese name that everyone in my extended family uses - "Yun Yun" and my mom addresses her by her Cantonese name. We also call her "the nut" because when she was in utero, we called her "Peanut"... now, all derivatives of Peanut is acceptable... nutbar, nutcase, freaky nut, etc. DH also used to call her "inside" when she was first born :D , the first time he did that, it made me laugh alot!

Traci... I had to laugh because we add "the" to everything. "the" daddy, "the" mommy, "the" leui leui, etc. but not "the" Yun Yun... don't know why?  This is before "the" Donald was apparent to us.

We use "leui leui" and "the nut" so much that I don't think she actually knows her real name. If I call her Arwyn, she doesn't look but if I call "leui leui", she does. Oh well...

Will try to join you for the chat on Sunday. It will be 6 pm here and Arwyn could still be up so... I may be late.

okay, I've sat down 3 times now to write something and I keep getting interupted, so now, here I am.

Nikki - thanks for the info about teething homeopathic remedies. I think I sometimes give Daniel the stuff when maybe, just maybe, he's not really needing it. So I'm trying to hold off again unless I notice a real sign. DH thinks I give him stuff too often too. Bad mummy. Also the time zone info. Thanks. I will hopefully be fine for 2pm on Monday if I'm back from my appointments in town.

Now that I know it's NY time that's easy, cos we have a little thing that rotates on the computer with the time zones for a few key places in the world and NY happens to be one of them. I think that's cos of the stock markets.

Ankie, since you've been telling us about Arwyn's names can I ask you totally out of curiosity, how did you come up with Arwyn? And is Ankie short for something else or is it Cantonese? Do you speak Cantonese at home or english? Sorry for 10 questions, just interested really. I've always wondered how babies/kids learn when two languages are used. Do they instinctively know one is english and the other is in your situation Cantonese? Or do you have to teach them the differences? Especially if both languages are used constantly at home.

Oh, and I want to pick up on a conversation we had pages and pages back (probably just last week  ) about snugglies, cuddlies etc. After trying to encourage Daniel to have a rabbit that we were given and him not really wanting it, I've discovered that after being wrapped up for so long he wants his wrap to suck on! He was using the sheet, then one day last week I gave him his wrap just beside him in the cot and he grabbed it straight away and started sucking. Now when he goes to bed he reaches for it straight away. So yay, Daniel now has a snuggly to help comfort him. It's quite big, a bassinet sheet, so I might cut it in half or even quarters, allowing for his growth and wanting to cuddle it though. At least if it gets to manky and yuck I can just go and buy another one. They're very common off the shelf brushed cotton. Yay!

Oh and Traci's mention of acronyms, when you girls talk about AF what are the initials standing for? I know what you're refering to but not the actual letters.

Thanks for the heads up on the acronyms.  I was making up crazy things in my head.

We used to call sol "pringle" cause his fingers always smelt like salt-n-vinegar chips.  Then it was "ol man tucker' cause he's always staring people down to the point of mild discomfort.  it was a song from Little House on the Prairie.

Ahh, the ILs...  I never really understood that these people would become SO involved in my life when I was dating dh.  It might of changed things if I had, like where we live!

I DO love them and all but sometimes... MAN!
