Welcome Nome and Jacob!  This place is a lot of fun even if some of us are a little crazy :P

Girls, I am so utterly baffled by my little guy.  Fed to sleep for first nap, second nap in stroller-friend has anbesol with her so I rubbed some on for him.  He cried a bit but then slept.  Fed to sleep for catnap.  I just thought I'd have one heck of a time getting him down for sleep and he went out without so much as a peep, only 1:15 after waking from catnap :?   One difference I can think of is after seeing the solids chart I gave Cole more for dinner.  I wonder if he's been hungry?  He's so active all the time and I've only been giving him total of about 8 tbsp a day.  The main reason for that is because he hasn't had many different things yet.  Anyway, gave him 4 tbsp rice made with 2 oz EBM, 2 tbsp carrot and 2 tbsp sweet potato.

Oh, and maybe he's just ready to drop the catnap?  but that wouldn't explain the fight to get him down for first nap today   :?

I hope he stays down and I haven't counted my blessings too soon.

Still hoping to make the chat.  But I've got to prepare dinner as well as apples and broccoli for cole.  YUM!

Welcome Nome!  This is a great thread.  Anytime your lol is doing something wonky, you can bet you'll find others experiencing the same thing!

Thanks for the nap info to those of you who shared.  Claire's sleep has been all over the place and I'm trying to get to the root of it.  Maybe there is no "root".  Sounds like we're all going through similar experiences.! Andrea you are not alone!

Andrea - If you don't mind, can you fill me in briefly on what weissbluth says about naps? eg how many, what time for this age etc?? I've probably had less than 10 naps longer than 45mins EVER !

Welcome Nome and Jacob - nice to hear from you!

Ankie - LOL, yes babies get 20 baby teeth, not 10 - I was telling DH my theory later on this morning, and he laughed at me and asked me if I thought Katie was only going to get 5 teeth on the bottom and 5 on the top.  If Arwyn has got a cold, I highly recommend a vaporizer/steam humidifier with some decongestant in it - someone recommended eucalytpus oil in our chat the other night, but I just bought some at the store all ready to go.  Makes it so much easier for her to breathe - I have also elevated the head of the crib to make it easier for her to breathe.

Micky - YAY for you to have dh at home - hope he stays home for Jackson's surgery.

Whoever was asking about pain meds, I've given them to Katie more than I'd like to as well some days, but I just can't see her being so miserable all the time.  There have been days when she's just whined and cried and not eated or slept for hours and I give her some meds and she's happy again.  DH works for a drug company and he says Tylenol has been tested for so many years and has been checked so carefully, there's really not much to worry about.  Motrin also does very extensive testing, but the government even regulates Tylenol differently because it's considered to be so "safe" - of course, give it according to directions.

Katie as it turns out, just has a cold, which is what I expected, but at least it was reassuring to hear it from the doctor.  I know I'm missing chat right now, but don't have the time tonight.

Take care all!

I definitely will be buying that vaporizer/ humidifier. Arwyn has woken up 3 times between 6:30 and 7:45! She can't breathe, poor thing! Anyhow, gotta do some housework now.  to the girls from the chat... I didn't start right away  had to check our board first!!

bec, a girlfriend of mine summarized weissbluth before i bought it.

I've never added an attachment...going to try now.

I've just read it and forgot...weissbluth is a CIO/CC advocate.  wherever you see "leave alone for an hour" or something like that, just insert "pat/shush, pu/pd"

I'll take a look at it and try to add some more useful info.  she did it really quick for me when I was about to lose it about a week into sleep training with Cole.

re: 45 min. naps.  Weissbluth also says some babies are just short nappers.  If you've done all you can to try to extend them, extending awake time, pat/shush, pupd and none of it has worked then you lo just might be one of them.

rough night last night.  fed at 9:50, woke at 10:45, 12:15 (DH turned on dishwasher  ), 1:00, 2 something ( i fed him ), 4:40.  At 4:40 i picked him up, he was soaked through with a HUGE poop.  had to hunt around the house for clean ls diaper shirt.  ended up feeding to sleep because he'd been up so long then sleeping on the futon with him.

held him to sleep for first nap again just now    someone who's done this please ensure me this won't undo all of my hard work.

Ankie-did you hold/feed Arwyn to sleep a lot and now she's going back to semi-normal?

it's just so hard to comfort him in his crib now that the mattress is low.  someone needs to invent a little door in the front of the crib so you can kneel on the floor and lay next to them.  HEY, might i be on to something?

gotta see if i can squeeze in a shower before he wakes.

I tried the chat last night!  It really is fun, I'll have to practice my typing skills.  You girls are fast.

Traci -  I totally agree about the crib.  I've been slipping my arm in between the crib rails, but it starts to hurt after a while and I've gotten stuck a few times.  :? I've held Claire while rocking AND with a pacifier to get her down for the catnap before.  It didn't seem to have an adverse effect.  I did it alot when she had her cold.

Have a great day everyone!

Hey girls.  Fun chat for a few minutes last night.  I didn't expect to see so many of you there because of the Sunday night chat...but whaddya know?!  Glad I checked.

Hugs to all the mom's and lo's with colds etc.
Welcome to Nome!
Micky yay about dh coming home!!!

Traci, sorry for the rough night.  We have had many nights like that (scattered) and she does eventually go back to the routine.  You won't undo what you have been working on.  Don't worry, just do what gets you and Cole through for now.  With Sophie's first teeth it took awhile to get her back on track, I thought for sure we were going to have to "start all over"  eventually, she was back...not without her own issues however....

OK, so I need some help.  I really want to drop the dream feed.  I keep doing it though because she is eating so little (ebm) during the day. DF is one of her best feeds.  She is only taking about 4-6oz in the morning??? Weird! Then nothing basically at the 11am feed (I keep offering, she keeps taking about 1-2oz)  Then a good feed at 3, usually 8oz, then basically nothing before bed 6:30-7 (Usually 2 oz or so)  So during the course of the day she's only getting about 18oz (on a good day) and I know she should be getting at least 24oz...so I df.  Thinking well, I have to get the stuff in her one way or another.  She weighs about 16 pounds (sorry, I am metrically challenged)  She is probably taking about a total of 9 tbs of solids a day.
So my question is, if I start cutting back on the df will she start drinking more during the day?? Or just waking up hungry in the night??
Any ideas?  I am a bit at a loss.  Good to have another perspective.
Thanks Ladies.
Hannah

Hi Beata!  You'll find this a great place to see what is "normal" :? If there is such a thing with these babes.  Claire is constantly changing and keeping me on my toes.

Ladies - Claire has been constipated, hasn't had a bm in 4 days.  I was talking to her ped's nurse about her cold and mentioned the constipation.  She recomended a 1/2 tsp. of milk of magnesia   Isn't that kind of harsh?  Have any of you given it?  I keep thinking of Kate's DH(pretty sure it was your DH Kate) :D  and the poopy incident.

Welcome back Andrea, missed you.
Welcome on board Nome and Jacob, Beata and Cate. Join right in, it gets a bit crazy here.
Glad to hear that everyone else is having naps/night problems. I am chalking it all up to developmental change and chant repeatedly, this too shall pass.
LOL Kate about Ryan and poops.
Judy, are you doing OK? Is this when dh goes away? Thinking about you.
Nikki, great that you caught on the the Coeliac's so early and that Nathan can do some growing catch up. There is soo much in the way of alternatives to gluten and you have started him young so he will have "good habits" ingrained IYKWIM. Good luck with weaning the STS with Danielle. Thank you, thank you for the advice! We had enough trouble weaning the swaddle and really don't want to go there again.
Everyone, what intervals are your los staying up? Does it get progressively longer as the day goes on? Sam has been resisting his catnap and we thought we would traipse donw to feed the ducks about 3.25 hours after he woke from nap 2. He fell asleep within 5 minutes of leaving the house WTF?!!!
Ankie, glad to hear you are back on track.
Well, first week back to work was fine and I quite enjoyed it even. Dh had a blast with Sam and kept Sam on his routine quite well.
We are having one waking a night where we have to "rescue" Sam from between the bars of his crib (I exaggerate) but he is pretty wedged by the time he cries out for help. He then has trouble settling himself to sleep. Last night, it took the two of us 2 hours ( in shifts) LOL. No idea how to fix it so we are just going to ride with it.
Anyway, missed you all as I cannot pop on here as often as I would like with being at work.
Have a great day all.
Karen

Welcome Nome!  Hi Beata!

Karen, glad to hear your week went well and that DH coped great too.  Danielle roughly has awake intervals of 2.5hrs, 2.75hrs, 3.5-4.5hrs depending on when the day started and when she woke from her last nap.

Hannah, that's a tough call really - but I did find when I dropped Nathan's DF that he wasn't well at the first feed of the day, so I weaned it out over a week by offering less and less minutes (BFing) and then one night just didn't go in to give it.  What you can also do is bring the DF forward earlier into the night, ours was initally at 10.15pm and I brought it forward to 9pm so I knew he could go the distance there as well.  I think you just have to give it a try and see what happens.

Traci, just out of interest, how does Cole go to sleep at the start of the night (ie bedtime)?  Just wondering if this is linked to his night wakings - apparently the way they go to bed at the start of the night really impacts on how well they resettle during the night.  So if you're feeding him almost to sleep for example, he may not know how to settle completely on his own.  Even if for naps he goes off to sleep absolutely fine, it's unlinked to night sleep.

Sorry, that's as far back as my computer views last replies...

Judy, how are the girls?
