hi girls!!

we are back home....what a long day yesterday was!!  :(   Poor Jackson.  When he first got back to the ward from the OR he was still pretty groggy but he got kindof an epidural so he wasn't feeling any pain.  We got put in a room which was a step-down unit from the intensive care unit-not because Jack was super sick but because there weren't anyother beds available.  The room had two other really sick babies in it also.  Jack was STARVING by the time he got back from the OR (about 2pm) and I last fed him at 3:30am.  But the nurses wanted me to go slow with feeding him so he was not happy when the bottle was done. :(   But at least the RN let me feed him more only a 1/2 hour later.  Then the doc's started him on codiene and tylenol and motrin (ibuprofen).  My poor little peanut was totally zonked!!  :(   But at least he fell asleep and wasn't in any pain.....until it wore off at midnight.   He screamed and screamed for almost an hour until the codiene kicked in again.  Needless to say he woke the other two babes-it ended up being a vicious circle for a couple of hours.   Oh, yeah also the other parents!!!     I was so annoyed!!  Jackson fell asleep probably about 8pmish and so I decided to go to bed also around 9pmish--well the parents right next to me talked in full voices until 11pm!!!!!!    Then finally the nurses turned off the overhead lights!   AT 11 PM!!!!!  I'm surprised any of the babes were sleeping!  Jackson is doing well though.  His feet look sore.  :(   He'll get his proper casts put on in a week once all of the swelling has gone down.  He's been so tired and such a good baby that as soon as I put him in his crib at the hospital and gave him his lovey he would roll on his side and lie quietly until he fell asleep....even with all the noise and bright lights going on around him--where as before all this jazz started he needed to be in his little dark cave with no noise to sleep.  So maybe the sleep training has actually helped him some! :D   So needless to say his sleeping is all out of whack but he seems to need it right now.  My poor little peanut. :(   I can't wait to go to bed tonight too!

DH was so cute when he dropped us off at the hospital he almost started crying   :)   He kept himself busy though while we were gone....he completely sanded and stained all of our kitchen cupboards! :D

Anyways, I'm glad to be home!

Hayley-about drying up- when I stopped BF I reduced the # of times and the length of time that I let Jack feed so that I was slowly weaning him on increased # of formula feeds.  Once he was on total formula feeds then I just would pump like once a day for at first 15 min then down to 10, then 5, then 2mins. then I was done.  It probably took me a good week to week and a half to stop totally. HTH.

I am so glad Jackson is doing well.   :D I cannot even image what it must be like to watch your lo lying in a hospital bed.  HUGS to you.   :)

Micky -Glad to hear Jackson is doing Ok  :) Poor DH how cute :(

Andrea - Just a note on what you mentioned about dozing off before a nap time (weissbluth). This morning on our walk I was leading my friend (she is blind) so Mum was pushing the pram and I noticed that DD had dozed off. So she had a little nap for about 10mins. When it came time for this mornings nap it was really difficult to get her down. So that bit of info has come in really handy - I will make sure to keep her awake during the walk.

Well I've gotta go out to my cousins farm to help with the horses dental checks - have a good day everyone....

Micky, glad to hear that Jackson's doing well.

Lisa, thanks for that about eggs, I think I'll wait a little while yet, we do have a heap of other food to work through, so will try it in a month or two.

Re power nap before naptime, I used to have big problems with Nathan having a 10min nap on the way home and he'd never resettle for a proper nap, so I tried to always make sure we were home in time otherwise he'd keep going for another 2hrs!

Traci, yes it was me that had D do her big once a week poop all over the carpet LOL.  Now that she's on solids she goes once a day.

Well my gluten-free/dairy-free brownies were a hit and everyone scoffed them up - But I forgot to save poor DH a piece.  :(

Hi Ladies....

Thanks Micky, Erin, Nikki, Traci, Kate, Hannah for all your support and posts on Brady's sleep pattersn.  We haven't been so lucky the last couple of days, things have gone back to chaotic...no sleep  yet again.

I'm sorry I missed the chat, my mom came for a visit actually and spent yesterday, last night and today with Brady and I. It was fun, but left little time for me to get online.  Did some Christmas shopping though....
She went home this evening.

Micky - glad to hear that Jackson's doing well!!

:D  :D  :D   So glad about Jackson!!!   :D  :D  :D That's really surprising that the other parents were so rude.  You'd think they'd be more understanding since they are going through the same type of thing.

Hayley, hope Bottle Day went well!

MUST DROP CATNAP!!!  Every time he has one, Ryan is a bear to put down at bedtime.  But, without one, he is a bear to deal with.  Catch 22, alright!  I'm going to try to push back his other two naps so that the time between the 2nd nap and bedtime isn't so long.

Went to the park with 2 girls from my prenatal group.  Ryan went for his first ride on the swings and even managed to commando crawl through a long tunnel!  The other boys were 9 and 10 months old, so Ryan had to make himself look good!

:?:   I have now hard-boiled a few eggs. Tried to give Ryan the yolk with some ebm.  No go in a BIG way!  Added some carrots, which he loves.  No go again!  Any ideas?  TIA!!!

Kate,
Try the "scrambled" way for egg yolk...mix with ebm then microwave for 10-20 secs.  If you put it in th fridge for a little bit it comes out firm enough for them to pick up and self-feed.  Maybe that will work?? Different texture than hard boiled.

Good for Ryan at the park!!!

SOOO glad to hear from you Micky, habe been thinking about you and Jackson.  It is great that he is at home but I know how hard it must be to see him in pain, poor little lamb.  ~~~~~healing vibes~~~~~

I think I will try the egg with all this talk.  Our chicken, tomatoe and noodles were a hit at lunch, absolutely loved it, I couldn't shovel it in fast enough.  Unfortunately i couldn;t tell that Sophie had developed hives on her face underneath the food stuck to her face!    It must be the tomato sauce.  I got really worried and phoned the ped. but she said not to worry unless I noticed any change in her demeanor within the 1/2 hour and that it was probably a minor reaction to the acid and in the sauce.  She was fine and the hives were gone 5 minutes after i washed her face but I questioned my adventurous food spirit!

I have some melon as well but I heard in america they say not to do melon, has anyone heard this?

Kate - if Sophie is not very physically active in the afternoon or doesn;t go outside I have soooo much trouble with the catnap, well that is my theory anyway.

Holly - was wondering where you were.  Sorry about the bad days but they say 1 step forward 2 steps back.  Brady will get there, in the mean time get on here and vent!

I must get to bed TTFN

HI Guys,

Not a long post, as DH and I have opened a bottle of wine and are unwinding ourselves after a very long week  :D

Micky-SO GLAD TO HEAR ABOUT JACK AND YOU!!!! :D   what a trooper your little man is.  I didn't realize it was an inpatient surgery.  It was hard enough when taylor had her outpatient surgery to deal with, so couldn't imagine having to stay in a hospital with her.  You are a terrific mommy!

Hayley-we are starting on the web and we will absolutely ship anywhere in the world! thanks for asking.

Holly-Tracy says a few tiems in her book that regressions are totally normal, esp. for boys.  So don't give up and keep doing what you're doing and he'll get it for good.  We're all here for you for support!

Glad to hear I am not the only one being kinda boring with the food.  I bought some Earths Best turkey dinner mix and want to try it...but since you are supposed to try all new foods in the morning, should I really try a turkey dinner in the morning?  Just seems so odd. :?:  :?:

BTW, today I went to my OBGYN for my check up and talking to her about babies and seeing pregnant women made me nostalgic and actually want to get pregnant soon.  AM I CRAZY OR WHAT!!!

Becca, hopefully the Weissulbuth tip will work for you next time.  I have been not letting her have any "power naps" before nap time for the last week, and no 45minute naps!!!  Maybe a coincidence, but I'll take it! :)

Good night all

Hello everyone, before I tell you about our great day I just want to say, hang in there Holly, things will get better again. And Micky, glad to hear all is well, I couldn't imagine how you must have felt, and how relieved you must be feeling now. My thoughts are with you.

Now, I have to tell you all how wonderful my Little Bear and DH are. The day started as I mentioned earlier, and ended with DH putting Daniel to bed after nearly 200mls of bottle, and no tears! Actually it was 80mls and he fell asleep, so DH put him into bed. But I told him that wasn't enough and he'd be sure to wake, so get him up and feed him some more. I think DH thought I was crazy, after all, he was asleep, but he did as I suggested and Daniel drank about 110mls more! yay! The other 2 feeds weren't quite as successful earlier in the day, but he still managed to take fairly close to what he probably was from me.

Oh and I'd bought some tinned food which we hadn't given him before, it was quite lumpy, Daniel spat it out! So we're going to puree it up tomorrow so as not to waste it. But on another successful note, I made some cheese and bread sticks and he ate 2 of them, not just sucked but ate them. Infact DH let him use one as a spoon to feed him with and he loved it! I may be onto something here. I think it must have been the cheese that helped, so I'll try adding cheese to some other things.

My chest feels like it's got 2 big bricks on it. I'm so solid and achy, even as far up as my neck. I've taken some pain killers and got the milk stop stuff, so hopefully they'll do the trick. We've got DH's grandparents 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, so I really hope I'm feeling better by then. I may have to express off a little if necessary.

Well, gotta go, very tired and too sore to type.

Oh, did want to mention about what makes Daniel laugh, among the main things like tickling and blowing raspberries, we do pretend sneezes and it sends him into fits of laughter. Ah Ah Ah Choooooooo.

Night night.

Micky-Welcome home!  Sounds like Jackson did really well :D   That is so great about DH doing the cabinets.  He probably needed to occupy himself to stop from worrying.

I'm sitting here trying to think of everything I wanted to say but I'm just zonked.  A couple of extra wake ups last night but he slept 5:45-5:45.  I think that's the solution to my 5am wakeup...he must be down no later than 6.  I know I've said this before but I guess I keep trying to stretch him later...it just doesn't work.

Also, I think I've been trying to force getting rid of the catnap each day.  Even on days when he woke early I'd try to keep him up until 8:30 to maintain his "no catnap" schedule.  I think as a result he was too overtired to make it through the 45 min. mark.  We'll see.  Put him down after 2.5 hours of A time...and he's just going through 45 now....

We had a bit of an ouchie today.  He was standing holding on to the banister next to the single step from our LR to DR.  I was sitting on the step and it happened so fast I couldn't stop it...he fell and hit his forehead (right near his eye) on the corner of the step    Thank goodness it's carpeted!  He cried hard for only 30 seconds.  I took him out of the area...stayed positive instead of worried/freaked as I was...and put an ice pack on it right away.  He didn't like it so I just brought him to the window to look outside and sang to him. He's fine :?   These babies really are tough.

I am really excited about Christmas cards this year.  My friend sent me a link for shutterfly.com and I'm going to make cards with Cole's pic.  I never sent announcements and so wish I'd known of this site then.  Of course, I didn't have my PC until july so it wouldn't have mattered anyway.  We're also doing stamps with his pic. I think I'm going to take his pic in just his diaper with a little santa hat on, we'll see.  I totally forgot I have to go shopping for a Christmas outfit.  DHs work is having a kids party next weekend and they'll have holiday photos :D   I know it's silly because he won't understand..but we do and i'm so excited.  I'm just so happy he learned to sit up properly so we can take good pics!

woo hoo...he made it through the 45 mark.  I guess I'll just take it one day at a time.

Nancy-are you lurking?  Haven't seen you for a bit...hope you are well.

One more thing. I got a Flylady reminder today to do a breast exam. She does it every month on the date of her birthday.  What a great idea!  Do you girls do this?  I am ashamed to say I don't.  Here is a link she provided for technique.
