How much is too much?
« on: October 15, 2005, 08:35:19 am »
Hi all,
Oscar has been on solids now since 5 months...so about 4 weeks. He's on 3 meals a day & loves it! He has porridge with fruit for breakfast, pumpkin mixed with rice cereal for lunch & veggies for dinner. He's probably having about 4 heaped tablespoons at each meal (he's still on 5 breastfeeds per day). I just read somewhere that they should be having 2-3 tablespoons....is it a problem to feed them too much? I think I saw somewhere else though that if they're keen, feed them what they'd like.

Would love some advice please! I don't want to overfeed (although this is coninciding with him giving up his 3am feed, which is done now...still having a dream feed bottle but getting less).

Thanks,
Sophie

Don't mind my tired brain calculations....he must've started just before 5 months because it has been about 4 weeks!  :)

Thanks,
Sophie

Since formula or breastmilk should be his main source of nutrition for several more months, his liquid intake will be your best guide. He should be getting around 32 oz of formula or nursing about 5 times per day. If he still shows interest in nursing and his hungry at feeding time, and you aren't seeing a significant decrease in the length of time he spends at the breast, then his solids intake is balanced right!
