Solids in pee!??! What the heck is it???!!!
« on: October 16, 2005, 14:55:50 pm »
I'm trying not to panic here.  Ds has been on solids for just over 3 weeks now.  The progression of food has been

rice / oatmeal cereal
sweet potato
pears (hated it)
banana
apple (hated it)
carrot

He's been a bit backed up for the last 2 days and a mommy friend recommended giving him a tsp of apple juice to get him 'flowing'.

I tried it and just now changed his morning diaper to find it full of sort, clear particles!!!!  DH thinks its the sugar from the juice that his body can't break down.

He doesn't seem to be in any pain and is his usual happy/energetic self.  I thought I'd see if anyone else has experienced this before calling my Mum who'll tell me to go straight to hospital.  Which i will if necessary.  What do you think?

I remember a few times Andrew's diaper, if he had a particularly wet one, would break open and the "stuff" inside would end up on his privates.  It looked like clear particles, kinda like what you are describing?

Thank goodness!!  nice to know that the two are not related and a trip to hospital doesn't need to happen.

Thanks ladies!  :D

Hmm, rather embarrasing story related to above topic...

I actually rang the children's ward at the hospital in a panic and described in great detail what I found in my daughter's nappy. I was paranoid because she'd just had bladder surgery so you can imagine my horror when I saw these little soft crystals all over her butt ''. They didn't know what it was and said they would contact her surgeon for me straight away. When I got off the phone, I just happened to look at a pack of nappies I had on the bench and saw some small print which explained exactly what the gel-like particles where. Thankfully, the surgeon was in theatre so the nurses hadn't been able to get in contact with him but they had a good laugh when I explained to them why they needn't bother calling him! ''
