plugged ducts
« on: October 18, 2005, 18:39:27 pm »
hi everyone!
I haven't been on the board in over 6 weeks and on this one in years!!
I have plugged ducts, which I had several times iwth my first two.
I bought some of those adhesive heating pads and I'm not sure if I should try them or not? anyone used them? Our regular heating pads are in storage still.
It's currently the right side that's hurting so I am starting on that side every time  I feed.
Grr, I hate plugged ducts!!!!

thanks!

I've only had it once (fortunately) what I did was just a warm washer on the site & changed the feeding position. I lay down with ds literaly lying over my sholder, so his chin feed bit massaged the duct. got that advice from my friend who is a post natal ward nurse. Other ways are football hold or baby body lying down & head towards you.
The other option which I would have done, but decided to try the other way as it was supposed to be better. Is to massage the blockage as you feed (after warming it) to help get the milk out & then maybe pump afterwards if needed.

I suffer so much still from this (abundant supply :? ).  you're doing good starting on the sore side every time I do this too!

I use a wide tooth comb in a hot shower to "pull" the milk down.

Gerber also makes these pads specifically for this- you put them in the microwave- THEY FEEL SO GOOD!  I'm not sure if that is what you have but were a livesaver for me. :D

I agree on the heat and massaging the sore area gently. Nice to see you!  :D
