Need 5month old and solids help????

Hi, My DS is 5months and 18.5lbs now. He was 7lbs9ozs when he was born so he is more than doubled his birth weight. He is drinking 8oz bottles and occasionally his bedtime bottle I have had to give him more thant 8ozs so I thought I would start him on solids a few days ago. The first day he did great. He ate a couple tsps. after the bottle with no difficulty. Since then it has not been going good at all. He clenches his mouth shut and shakes his head bavk and forth. Wondering if he will get used to it if I keep trying or if I should give up for a while. Any advice appreciated!

It took absolutely ages for my little one to get the hang of eating,  two to three weeks at least. I do not onow how other mums feel about this but I had to try to make the rice a little more palatable; watery vegetables or fruit. That is what I did and it did help. Keep trying, he will get the hang of it I promise.

Personally, I'd wait and try again in a week or 2!  There's no rush!

Hi Rebekahb,

Instead of giving the cereal with a spoon I started with a bottle, therefore it was very liquid in the beggining. Also I begun with oat instead of rice. This was only for three days and then I started with a spoon.

Maby this can help, it worked great for me.
