How Do I introduce eggs ?
« on: October 20, 2005, 19:17:57 pm »
I've tried giving a bit of my scrambled egg to him but he doesn't like the texture (a bit dry).  Is there any other way as I know eggs are healthy for him.

How Do I introduce eggs ?

Hi Dina,  I asked my health nurse about this question.  Up until they are 12 months old they can only have the yolk because of allergies but she has suggested to introduce it by adding it to their meat dishes.  You could just add a few drops of egg yolk at a time to meat and veges (or just veges) and see if any allergies come up that way.  It will also mask the taste a little so he will be getting the goodness from the eggs while not knowing they are there  :) I am yet to try it but was going to give it a go next week.  You could gradually increase the amount of egg you use until he is having the whole yolk.  Maybe as it gets stronger you can start to make scrambled eggs again

Hope that helps.

You dont say how old your son is so I don't know if these are appropriate:

Mashed egg yolk to make a sandwich filling.
Eggy bread / french toast depending on what you know it as. (soak a slice of bread in beaten egg yolk and fry until cook through)
Homemade custard uses egg yolk and no white
I made an easy omlette for finger food adding cheese and a veg to it.

Have you tried adding water to the eggs before cooking?  Or even a little salsa afterwards?  It makes them not so dry  :D

Mashing a hard boiled yolk into a vegetable soup also seems to work well.

Did he have any reaction when he had the egg? I know we get conflicting advice about when to introduce egg as around the world we get told different things! If he didn't have any reaction the first time, I'm sure he's not going to have a reaction again, but keep an close eye on him.
DD has had a scrambled egg almost every day since she was 7/8 mo. I use the whole egg and add milk before microwaving it. By microwaving it and adding plenty of milk you can make it really runny and soft, but you must make sure that the actual eggs are cooked, not still undercooked. I always buy lion marked eggs to be on the safe side!

They are such a nutirtious meal all in themselves!!!

I make a scambled egg with about a tablespoon of cream cheese, or cottage cheese. First melt the cheese in the pan, then add the egg. It's creamier.

I boil the egg and then mush up the yolk with a little breastmilk.
