My DD will be a couple weeks older than your DS around XMas time, but here are my suggestions.

#1. Baby Einstein Exersaucer.  It's stationary, that way baby doesn't get under your feet cruising around.
#2. Any type of Jumperoo, I like the one that goes in your doorway.
#3. Fisher Price and Leap Frog both have great toys that entertain baby while they are sitting up, or trying to sit up.  Check out Amazon.com and Babie's R Us for toys also.  You can also create a Baby registry at Babies R Us too, so you can select all the toys you like and email the registry to people.
#4. Go to OneStepAhead. Com and create a registry also.  This website has fantastic stuff for babies, including stuff for safety, water and bath, feeding, toys, books, etc.  We have a food grinder and cubes to put homemade food from them.
#5. Bath toys, teethers and rattles.  There's a teether at One Step, that vibrates.  DD loves it!
#6. Baby Einstein Bath Puppets, they are adorable and DD loves them.
#7. Disney movies, disney ornaments (for you to collect)
#8. Stacking blocks (soft), balls
#9. Baby Signing book or DVD or both

Gosh, you think I'm a little bit overboard with shopping for DD.  That's why I'm creating a registry so I don't go broke buying all this stuff.  But I hope the suggestions help.

Some older baby toys that my DD likes are:
- the plain old Fisher Price stacking rings
- set of nesting cups
- from Discovery Toys (dont' know if you have that in England) - a nubby ball that smells nice and squishes; a soft cube about  8 inches square that has different patterns on it, and an open top, and it comes with six little animals - one squeaks, one rattles, one smells nice, one has a fuzzy texture, etc. that go inside - teaches "in" play
- a basic shape sorter - Fisher price makes one that's just a bucket with a removeable lid and plastic squares, circles, triangles and stars - no fancy lights or sounds needed. DD loves to play with the bucket on her own, dump the shapes out, and we build towers with the shapes and she knocks them over. Later, we'll put the lid on so she can learn the shapes.
- board books! DD loves any book
Those are some of the non-fancy, basic baby toys that every baby should have - our DD loves them all!

DD was 5 months last Christmas, these were the best toys she got
Peekablock Incrediblock (fantastic, hours of fun from sitting to standing)
Leapfrog learning table
V-tech baby walker (push a long type)
Board books

All if these things are still played with on a daily basis now, even at 14 mo!!!

Hi,

You could also have a look at the Roll-a-rounds they are great made by Fisher Price again and they have all sorts of things to go with them  I think there is a Dinosaur that roars when you put them through.  My little one loves them he has one set at the moment and loves rolling them backwards and forwards to me and chucking them about the place.

There is also a ball by Fisher Price that makes music and has lights.  It moves on it's own and encourages crawling can't remember for the life of me what it's called though.

I'm constantly buying toys for my 8 mth old.  His most favorite toy is the bouncing Tigger, you press the tip of his tail and he bounces and then prompts baby to press it again to make him bounce faster, and then even fasterer !  He figured out from when he was about 6 months old that if he chews on the tip of Tiggers tail - he bounces.  He loves him so much now that that he squeels (not sure how to spell that ! minds gone blank) sooo much in excitement !

I'm going to buy him the next model up - the one where he does cartwheels, I think Argos sell it - but the bouncing one - may now be unavailable due to this 'upgraded version'.  Its made by fisher price.

Mines drying out now, as his tail is soaking wet !

Hi Dina,

Just a word of warning! Dp went out last week, and came back with the cartwheeling Tigger (all by himself  ), and it's absolutely rubbish! It worked fine in the shop, but the one we've got says that it's Tumble Time, goes to do a cartwheel, but just falls backwards. I think we're going to take it back. If your lo loves his toy so much, it might be worth quitting while you're ahead!
Caroline :)

Here is what William is having from his Grandma and Grandad for Christmas!
Ive already had it out of the box and its great - I'm hoping William will love it as much as I do lol... It also strikes me that its good value as it will last so long!
