Is it possible to follow BW's methods and still use a paci?
« on: October 22, 2005, 19:04:54 pm »
I am about to start using Tracy's PU/PD methods from her book and of course I have a 4 month old who really loves her pacifier.  Is it possible to follow Tracy's methods while still using the pacifier or do I need to get rid of it?

Thanks,
Allison

*personally* i think it's up to you.

my dd loved her paci as well, and i think it helped keep her baby heartburn under control, so i let her have it.  (the fact that i let her keep it until she was well over 2 is another story   )

keep in mind that your lo will be at least 6-8 months old before she can find it on her own and put it back in her mouth - at naps or in the middle of the night.  if you are okay with that, then go with it.

otherwise, you may want to check the props forum for ideas on weaning.

good luck, & HTH  :D

Warning the following is not fully BW sanctioned advice.

We came late to BW.  Ds was 5.5 months old and LOVED his paci.  We were pretty lucky that he hardly ever lost it in his sleep (must have had a really strong urge to suck  ) so we didn't have to run in to replace it all the time.  In answer to your question we did do our sleep training (pu/pd) and put him on EASY all the while using the paci for sleep times.
