is this a nightmare?
« on: October 23, 2005, 02:08:39 am »
Earlier tonight, Xavier started screaming/crying in his crib, about 40 minutes after he went to bed.  I'm not sure how long he'd been asleep for, since he wasn't making any noise, but when we went in, he was just lying there screaming and screaming.  We tried shushing and patting his back and finally I picked him up and walked around a bit while he kept screaming.  It was like regular crying, it was total screaming!  He was awake and settled down after a few more minutes of this and after a few more short crying bouts (~20-30 seconds each time), he fell asleep again.

So...was he having a nightmare or night terror?  He's almost 16 months old.  I realize there could be other factors too, like getting sick or teething, but he's just getting over a cold and has slept fine for the last few nights.  I gave him some Camilia, thinking it was teething.  Nightmare was the only other thing I could think of.

Ana Isabel had similar episodes at that age... she refused any comfort from us and seemed posessed or something (quite scary! ) so I figured it was night terrors, I learned to just stand back and let her settle herself (making absolutely sure it was indeed one of these) because intervening only made it last longer! also... what do you rekon might be overstimulating him? I stopped letting her watch TV (one show she enjoyed) and it went away! so maybe some show or something??? :?:
hope this helps
