Days and nights mixed up??
« on: October 25, 2005, 15:48:01 pm »
Hi,

I have a 10wk old boy his name is Logan and I think he may have his days and nights mixed up.  He sleeps really well all through the day and he can not get to sleep between 6pm and 11.30pm each night, he also doesn't sleep very well during the night often taking around 2hrs to settle.  Please help to get this sleep pattern changed, I have to go back to full time work soon and don't think I'll be able to cope very well with this routine and work and three other children.

thank you for any help,

Deborah

Hello Deborah - welcome to the boards.

I'm sorry no-one has replied to your question - can anyone help?

If it's any consolation to you, my lo had exactly the same problem at that age, but I can't remember what we did to correct it  . I think, though, that consistency is the key - try to get a good routine going, especially in the evening, so that he eventually cottons on to the fact that it's night time.

Congratulations on your little boy!
Caroline :)

Days and nights mixed up??

oops... this post must have gotten buried....

does sound like he has days & nights mixed up.  things i did to help switch my kids included:

- making sure they didn't feed to sleep during the day (or really ever)
- expose them to sunlight
- talking, quietly singing, etc. during the day
- little to no eye contact at night; no talking at night

it takes babies different amounts of time to adjust to the new pattern.  dd was doing it in about 2 weeks; it took ds closer to 7.

I have heard that babies Pituitary gland (think it's called that) that determines between night & day, is usually not developed properly until around 3 months so maybe you will notice the start of a change then.

Also all the above things, like getting plenty of daylight in day etc...

I also only feed to sleep at night.

At night I do nappy change before feeding.....but in the day I do feed, nappy change then activity to try & differenciate between the two.
