12 months old - Where to go from here?
« on: October 26, 2005, 15:28:12 pm »
My baby, Ryan, is 12 months today!  The doctor gave us the green light for cow's milk.  He is still drinking breast milk (I pump and put it in a bottle).  Do I just start filling bottles with "real" milk when he normally gets a bottle?  He has 4 bottles a day - morning, night, and in between meals.  I am not sure how much milk to give him.  Should it be the same amount as breast milk (usually 16-20 oz)?  Also he is still getting the hang of a few finger food items.  He still loves baby food.  Can I put the milk in a cup as an in between snack?  Any suggestions would be great! :?

Well, we just start putting the milk in the bottles and Adrian had no problem with it. Also, offering the sippy cup. Then, we started dropping bottles, first the afternoon one, then the noon one, and then morning one. Still have the bedtime one which we are about to tackle. Hope that answers your question.

Like Sandra, we just started putting the milk in bottles instead of formula, then started dropping bottles soon after. We dropped the noon one first, then afternoon, then morning within about a month. We held off on dropping the bedtime bottle until Tyler was 15 mo, out of fear that he'd flip out, but it was actually much easier than we'd thought. Aim for him to get 16-24 oz of milk each day (don't forget to count cheese and yogurt in that total). We offered milk with meals and as a snack. Happy birthday Ryan! :D
