how to move up bedtime
« on: October 26, 2005, 18:54:59 pm »
hi there!
Monica is almost 10 weeks old and is doing really well. She has gone at least 8 hours most of this week. She is usually going to bed at 10pm. She is so tired between the last two feeds, when I try to keep her awake.
Now that she is sleeping a good long time at night I'd like to have her bedtime earlier and maybe do a dream feed. I probably should ahve done this earlier, but with 2 others, it's just worked out this way!

So how should I start? Her schedule is roughly like this :
7:30 or 8am wake and eat
plays or sits in bouncy seat
naps in carseat (while we take her brother to school)
11:00 or 11:30 eat
activity time
naps in carseat again (while we pick joe up and go home)
2pm eat
activity
nap (usually falls asleep with a bit of fussing)
4:30 or 5 eat
activity
nap
7pm eat
bath
keep awake
9pm eat
10pm bed

Last night she kept waking up and I was so tired so I didn't do pat/shh. I ended up holding her and she fell asleep at about midnight and she slept until 8.
I also have to work things around Joe's school time. We leave at 9:30 am to take him and pick up him at 1pm.

SOOOOOOOOOOO, sorry this got so long, but any suggestions on moving up the bedtime would be great.
I guess I'm afraid that if I just try to put her to bed after the 7pm feed that she won't stay asleep.
TIA!

when i did it with my kids, i would start their last feed about 15 minutes earlier (like 9:45 instead of 10pm) and do that for a few days, and then go 15 minutes before that... etc.

eventually, around 12 weeks or so i had bedtime around 8pm and no more feeding till 7-8am.  but it had to be gradual, or they wouldn't keep their normal wake up time

HTH  :D
