Is this normal???
« on: October 26, 2005, 21:51:55 pm »
I'm about to lose the plot.
I bf Harry, so I don't know if this is 'right'.

Our feeding schedule looks like this...
25 Oct...Lydia...
8.15am - 4oz
10.50am - 2oz
1.45pm - 4.5oz
4.25pm - 4oz   no problem so far.
6.45pm - 2oz
8.30pm - 7oz
10.40pm - 4oz
from 6.45 - 10.40 - awake
then sleeps through til 6.20am!

26 Oct Lydia
9.20am - 4oz
11.50am - 4oz
4.20pm - 5oz
6.55pm - 5oz  30 min nap, will not go back to sleep.
9pm - 4.5oz  in bed

25 Oct  Sam
6.05am - 7oz
9.20am - 3oz
12.15pm - 6oz
4.45pm - 5oz
6.45pm - 3oz
8.30pm - 4oz
11pm - 1oz
2.55am - 3oz
3.55am - 3oz
Awake from 6.45m - 11pm

26 Oct Sam
8.10am - 4.5oz
12.45 - 2.5oz
5.15pm - 7oz
8.15pm - 3.5oz
9.35pm - 5oz - fell asleep this feed, would not wake til I lay him down

Is this feeding pattern normal?  Sam is shattered but will not sleep.
There is no problem with going back to sleep during the day, or at night.
Both babies go to bed awake.
It's just these early/late evening feeds that are really getting to me.  I wouldn't mind if they slept between feeds.

That's all folks!

Wendy my cousin has 5 children & although she bf, I know that each one never slept between about 5 & 10pm (give or take) from about 1mo to 3-4mo & Aiden used to be the same. I think some babies are like that. given your lo are about 1mo (adjusted) I would say they must just have a big unsettled period... Liam had 2 hours from 2am-4am.
I know my cousin just lived with it. With Aiden, I tried all sorts of things & I think he just grew out of it
No that it helps but I think it is not all that abnormal

Hiya Kate. Thanks for the reassurance.  Here's hoping tonight will be better, although I thnk I know the answer to that one!
We've been out to see friends, and the little darlings have slept in their carseats for the last 4.5 hours!
John is on nights, so this evening will be fun...

We had a complete 'mare in the evenings for a few months.  It only improved when I started putting him to bed for the night at about 6pm (which meant he didn't see his dad - but that was just too much stimulation at the end fo the day - poor dh :( ) and then doing the cluster feed at 8 in the same way as a dreamfeed.  In the dark, no nappy change, straight back to bed.

I don't know if there's lots going on in the evenings at your house that they just don't want to miss and then they are just getting over tired.  We just had to pretend that everything stopped at 6pm and creep around for a few weeks until he got used to it.

Just the usual Jenny!  Feed Harry, me and DH, if he's home around 5.30/6pm. Bath Harry 6.30/7pm, then bed at 7/7.30pm, so thinking about it, I suppose they could be a little 'overcooked'!!
But I can't think of any other way of getting round it.

what about the basement

No, seriously, it sounds like the same sort of problem we had.  It did help when it got darker in the evenings because we tended to be home earlier and could have more of a wind down.  I don't know what to suggest other than to try and put them to bed as far away from everyone else as possible and then try not too much stimulation at feed times.

I guess what you could try is putting them to bed and then one of those white noise machines/ CDs to cover up the household noise?

Hi Wendy
Im certainly not equipt to offer any advice on feeding as William has decided all along when he wants to feed and how much he wants but if its any consolation William more often than not refuses to sleep between 6pm and about 11pm - I did start putting him to bed at 8pm but I was up and down the stairs all evening. Ive found it much better if he spends the evening and up until about 10.30 down here with his dad and I. He just lays in his chair playing with his teddy bear or sucking on his soother with his eyes shut and then will sleep through the night after I put him to bed when I go at about 10.30.
I guess this will create a few difficulties when he's older if I dont sort it - I really dont want him down here till 11pm when hes 4 or 5, but at the moment it seems to be the best way for us and him.
