With the current thinking being putting baby to sleep on their backs - do you need to modify the shh pat technique because you can't pat the baby's back when they are lying on it!  I've found using shh pat works really well but end up patting the baby's tummy once he is in his cot....is this the best way?

any way that works without becoming a prop is the best way!

seriously, though, i did modify it a bit to fit my baby better.  he hated the patting; he liked a firm hand on the tummy/chest area instead.

if your lo doesn't mind the tummy, i wouldn't worry too much.

I have always patted my DD chest. Sometimes now i tip her and try on her back if her arms are wailing around and she thinks i am strange, so sometimes now i even pat on her legs.
