LO can't get to sleep unless in her cot
« on: October 28, 2005, 14:31:03 pm »
I think I know the answer to this one, but just to clarify.

My DD and I always used to go out in the mornings in the summer time (now Autumn in UK) and she would go to sleep in her buggy.

We were having trouble with 45mins nap times.  So I concentrated on getting them sorted out, in her cot.  They are gone with the odd occassion.  So now I'm starting to go out and about on odd days here and there.

She can't sleep in her buggy anymore, the traffic just annoys her, she cries and cries.  I put her dummy in her mouth to sooth her, but she wouldn't have it.  It was like she was in pain.

How can I get her used to sleeping in the buggy again.  Go out in the mornings again?

I am getting a car in a few weeks, so we will be out and about, and I don't want to get upset in her car seat, because it is not her cot.   :(

I remember someone asking Tracy this very answer in chat once.  She said that essentially you can't have it both ways.  When you teach a baby to sleep in their crib, and they learn to associate it with sleep, you can't then expect them to sleep where-ever, whenever.  You'll have to organize your/her day so she has her rests at home.  She'll still enjoy the carriage rides, just don't take her out when she's tired and needs to sleep.

I agree, my little one will only sleep in her crib, the buggy is just for fun. Knowing this I try to plan my day so that she is home when it is time for her nap. Yes it is frustrating and limiting but I have a good sleeper and so it is worth it. I am going to the mountains at Christmas though and am going to take her walking in th afternoons, I hope the mountain air will encourage sleep otherwise I will have to rethink my days.
