Big week for us next week
« on: October 28, 2005, 18:48:36 pm »
We're off for two trips to hospital for allergy testing. Already had blood taken but no results yet. Wednesday we'll be in for skin prick tests and Friday for a cows milk challenge.

I'm trying not to build up my hopes but keep thinking to myself, this time next week we could be eating ice cream together, chocolate together, going to a restaurant without worrying and without having to explain ourselves.

Well gonna try and keep it calm this week. Will let you all know how we get on.

Ooo, I'm praying for you. I can't wait for that day myself. Good luck.  :)

How did she do with the blood draw? :(

Thanks for thinking of us. The bloods were pretty upsetting although I tried to be tough. The plebologist nurse was really nervous of taking the blood as Liv is so little and her viens are tiny.

The paed nurses were all amazing. I had one nurse taking the blood and 3 trying to distract Liv with Barney, a toy dog and something else which slips my mind! I was hoping my hubby would have to go through the ordeal with us but things got delayed and he had to get back to work!

Ugg, I feel your pain. Dd had to have her blood drawn not too long ago and I was crying before they even started. I had brought dd's lovey with and I still can't believe it but she didn't even cry. The one nurse doing the draw said, "I don't remember the last time this happened" and the other nurse said, "I don't think I've ever seen it happen!"

So there I sat crying like a baby while my four month old sat in silence.

Ok, well here is the first update. Today we had the bloods results and the skin prick test. Bloods showed a positive to mixed foods but that includes the top 6! Skin prick tests showed negative to 11 items ranging from milk, egg and wheat to cat dander.

So fingers crossed and we'll wait and see what happens on Friday with the milk challenge.

OK, well after 6.5 hrs in hospital for the milk challenge we're home after consuming a total of 60ml and no reaction. So this weekend we're starting slowly with things that have milk in like baked goods, pastries, cake, ice cream and we'll move on to cheese and yoghurt following that. Finally milk in a few weeks time when we get an idea on what Liv can tolerate on an ongoing basis.

So maybe this is good things for us and hopefully a stress free Xmas (well in terms of food anyway!)

Thanks all for your kind words.

So far we love chocolate fingers, milky bar buttons, normal buttons and today we are going to try baby bel cheese. Really hard for mummy to avoid eating them too! Once she's had a taster of some of these things we're going back to them being treats not every day items.

She is looking a little dark under the eyes but I'm hoping that is just her system getting used to a new food stuff.

Shopping yesterday was such a pleasure, just picking things off the shelves without checking. I however giving a double check before cooking as we've been advised to avoid nuts until she has a challenge - didn't realise pesto had cashews in!
