Liver pate?
« on: November 02, 2005, 16:30:59 pm »
My dd hasn't had any red meat yet so I was thinking of how to best introduce it and I read that liver in small amounts is good for them and next thing I found some 'liver spread' in my local organic shop.  Then I realised it must mean liver pate (I don't speak the language yet!) - is it ok to give them this at this age?

I don't know about comercial ones, I check the label for it.

I made a homemade pate, it's easy.

Meat of your choice
Onion (diced)
Carrots
Parsnip
Parsley
One boiled egg (you can just use yolk)
Sour cream
Mayonaisse
A bit of melted butter
Salt, pepper to taste

On some oil saute onion and carrots. Add meat and parsnip. Pour water to cover and cook until tender. Drain. Put in the food processor and add the rest of the ingredients.

The recipe is forgiving for the quantities, so feel free to play with it. And it's good for the whole family.

Heck, now that I think about it, this might be a good use for a leftover stew.
