refusal of bottle during/just after teething
« on: November 03, 2005, 11:51:28 am »
Hi

I have a 6 month old who has just cut two teeth (the last one was 31st Oct).  Whilst teething she was understandably refusing the bottle (although took the breast fine). However 2 days on and she is still not happy about taking the bottle - is this normal? Does anyone know how long this will last?  She drinks from the Haberman Feeder...

If someone could give me some guidance on this I'd be most grateful,

Karen

Hi Karen,

My lo is 17 weeks old tomorrow and seems to be cutting his first two teeth - his cheeks are very red, and he has constantly got things in his mouth rubbing them on his gums.

Over the past two days, I too have noticed that he has been refusing his bottles - only drinking 6 of his usual 9 oz.  I have tried to give him more and it only frustrates him.

Yesterday once he has stopped his bottle and would not take any more, I put some Bonjela on his gums, and straight after that offered him his bottle again, and he took another 2 oz of it.  It is worth a try - hopefully this will work for you.

Let me know how you get on.
