Any ideas for naptime routines? :?:
« on: November 04, 2005, 20:15:13 pm »
Hi, I'm just wondering what you all do for naptime routines? I have a good nightime routine, but can't seem to think about something to do for naps - I know, no imagination!  :D  It has to be fairly easy, because I also have my 21-month old around to take care of...

Thanks in advance!

If possible, the naptime routine should be a shorter version of the bedtime routine. Ours has always been really simple...we still do it to this day, and Tyler's 22 mo.
Clean up toys (added after he got older)
Go up to his room for quiet play (if he seems wound up)
Change diaper (if needed)
Swaddle (we still wrap his legs in his blanket)
Paci
Turn on lullaby CD
Sit in rocking chair and cuddle
Put in crib

If we don't have to do the quiet play part, it literally takes no more than 5-10 min. We do the same thing at night, except no swaddle and we put on pajamas. Pretty simple!

Our naptine routine is also a shorter version of our bedtime routine.
Change diaper (for bedtime this is bath/change into PJs)
Play for a few minutes
Read a story
Put in crib
Turn on music

We did something like this for a nap wind down when wee:
Swaddle tight, carry her around the house for few minutes, take her to her room, dim the lights, pull the blind (she needs complete darkness), rock for a few minutes and then I lie her down in his bed.  If she can't settle I would shh/pat until almost asleep.

Now at 14mos:
take her to her room, diaper change, pull the blind (she needs complete darkness), rock for a few minutes while reading book and then I lie her down in bed and say good night!

Thanks everybody for the ideas. I'm not so sure about adapting my nightime routine, as it it bath, then belly massage (Connor used to have lots of gas, but I've kept that part of the routine so far, he is just 3 months old) and then boobies, before taking him upstairs to his bedroom, swaddle him and put him in bed.

I could still do nappy change and belly massage, but not the feeding part... Maybe I could swaddle him downstairs and carry him around a little bit, that sounds like a good idea! Anyways, thanks again girls!  :D

Yes, that sounds good:
nappy change and belly massage, swaddle and carry him around a little bit, then bed.
