4wkold, quick eater/activity short, too long naps?
« on: November 08, 2005, 15:58:54 pm »
I guess the subject says it all. Ella has been on 3 hour easy since day 2 of life, no problems. I am finding though now at 1 month the quickness of which she empties the breast (at the most 15 mins/max) and then her short amount of activity time (diaper change, cuddle and the swing) maximum 20-35 minutes (pushing it), leaves her nap times too long (I know book says no more than 2 hours).
Is it okay to have longer than 2 hour naps, is it jeopardizing her night sleep? Recently she started sleeping after her df at 10 until 3-4am, then up around 7-7:30am which I thought was amazing, but then last night she went back to getting up at 1:30am and 4:30 am to feed. Is she going through a growth spurt now or did I maybe give her too much awake time yesterday (she was woken two times from two different naps to see the midwife and then see friends). I am sorry this is so long, but I would appreciate any feedback.

Hi. I hope my answer helps you.

My son was the same way. From day one he was on a 3 hour EASY. When they are just newborns they sleep a lot! He was only away for 30 minutes or so at a time, and that included the wind down period when I was putting him down for a nap. Right now he is two months old. He sleeps 5-7 hours at night wakes up to eat then sleeps another 3 hours, before he wakes up again. During the day he goes between 2-2 1/2 hours between eating, I think its because he is so hungry from not eating much at night. He does make it three hours between eating in the afternoons. At two months old he stays awake one hour max between waking up and falling asleep again.

I think what you are doing is great and your baby is right on track.
