resisting sleep

My two 1/4 yr old son seems to associate his crib with resisting sleep. Even if he's calm and perfect for bed when I put him in, he can sometimes stay in there crawling around and talking for over an hour. How do I change this association?

You may find he is ready for a big bed.He may feel trapped in the crib.
Does he try to get out at all?
I will lokk in my book to see what else I can come up with
