A jar of solids (i.e. chicken and apples, etc.) or more formula??

I'm just confused because dinner is usually the toughest meal and if he eats a good dinner, he only has like 4 ounces of his bottle before bed and then we have him waking 1 or 2 times for a feed.  I'm wondering if I should feed him earlier or feed him less solids to get in more of the bottle, KWIM??  I don't know which would hold him longer??

What time are you feeding the solids, and what time are you feeding the formula?

Let's say I feed solids at 6pm and bedtime bottle at 8.  Even with a two hour time span, I can't get him to drink more than 4 ounces or so.  If the time span is any closer, he'll drink even less.  If I could get him to eat a dinner and then a full bottle or close to a full bottle, I know I would get a longer stretch out of him.  He's 9 months but he seems to have such a small gut.  Maybe I just have to wait  him out?  Or maybe skip solids at lunch???
