7m old suddenly gagging and being sick when given solids
« on: November 09, 2005, 11:56:48 am »
I started weaning my DS at just under 5months (he was 9wks prem) - and up to now had no problems whatsoever.  All this week however he has started gagging horribly and throwing back up when i give him veg, sometimes on his porridge and fruit aswell - although petis filous seems to go down no problem  any ideas?

Hi, I don't have any advice but my son has started doing the exact same thing. He is 8 1/2 months old and up to now solids presented no problem. I am trying to introduce foods with a bit more texture. Some times he is okay but every once in a while he gags and throws up. After he throws up he is perfectly fine so I don't suspect any stomach problems.

Sorry I have no solutions but you are not alone!

My son was doing this with 'thicker' baby foods ... he wasn't ready for them yet and didn't know how to swollow the small mouth fulls I was giving him. It took a bit (a week...which is good), but he's not able to swollow. The cereals too I have to make a bit watery. Sometimes their pallet isn't used to the newer textures.
